Different reading with the same food

Also, you are lucky if your meter is always that consistent. I can have a difference of 1-2mmol sometimes on the same blood sample (eg measure, but higher than I expected, measure again using same drop of blood, different reading up to 2mmol). Type 2 on Metformin, diagnosed Jan 2013, ultra...

    have to request in writing

My practice are the opposite - they won't read them out ( say that they are not qualified to report results) but will give me a print out. That is fine by me, and I would be intensely irritated if anyone suggested that I couldn't have access to my own blood results. That would be a...

    Sort of newly diagnosed

Wow, what an inspiring story! And in a relatively short time as well - you've done amazing! :) Type 2 on Metformin, diagnosed Jan 2013, ultra low carber, Hba1C at diagnosis 8% (64), average BS now between 5 and 6 mmol.

    Starving after exercise

Pork scratchings are fine for a snack, Andy. Obviously they don't really have much nutritional value so I wouldn't use them as the basis of your new eating plan ;) Another good (and perhaps more nutritious snack) is nuts. Almonds and Brazil's are some of the very best, low carb wise. Peanuts...

    fasting levels

    1) morning (fasting) levels can be the very last to normalise - you'd think they'd be the first but they're not. So don't worry, you're totally not alone. It is because your liver releases glucose in the early hours before waking, under the influence of cortisol, to "prepare" you for the day. In...

Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

Congratulations on your wedding anniversary! (And as you will learn over time - sandwiches aren't really a very good idea, but if you're going to have a little bread, plenty of butter will help slow down the sugar spike, so certainly don't need to have them dry! ;) ) Have a nice steak...

Listen to Andy ;). If you follow his example, you won't go far wrong :)

Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

Michael - one thing I would suggest is just to take a day at a time and don't try to find out/learn about everything all in one go. I don't mean you shouldn't research these things, absolutely you should, but it doesn't all have to be done at once, assimilate it a bit at a time.

    DIABETIC FOODS

I know what you mean, shopping does take a lot longer! But really , I very much doubt anyone else is going to be watching you and noting how long it takes you to read labels. So don't let that stop you :) Just allow plenty of time for your shopping! Type 2 on Metformin, diagnosed Jan 2013...

Need carb advice from chocolate connoisseurs

I'm definitely going to try that. Haven't got an Aldi near me unfortunately, because theirs sounds really good too. Type 2 on Metformin, diagnosed Jan 2013, ultra low carber, Hba1C at diagnosis 8% (64), average BS now between 5 and 6 mmol.

Need carb advice from chocolate connoisseurs

*sigh* I've a nasty feeling that Easter eggs are going to be a no-no this year :( :(. And I LOVE Easter eggs. I am working my way up to liking dark chocolate (never even ate plain chocolate before - I was white and milk all the way). I now do quite like 70% - different but really nice in its...

    DIABETIC FOODS

Phoenix: that sounds absolutely disgusting! I can't believe people would willingly eat something like that :( I sort of do and don't agree about supermarkets selling more "diabetic" foods. I wish there were more low carb versions of "normal" food available (eg if somebody could come up with a...

    weetabix v natural yogurt

I was able to grind the whole seeds (they look a bit like sesame seeds) very easily in my Vitamix - not sure if an ordinary food processor does the job or not. Apparently once they are ground you have to store them carefully or they can go off - I keep mine in a china jar in a cupboard. Type...

    weetabix v natural yogurt

No comparison, Andy - if you're having three big spoonfuls you're probably having about 150g (I have two big spoonfuls and its 100g). As long as its full fat yogurt, it should be not much more than 4.0g carb/100g, so probably about 6g carb for that. The berries, maybe 2-3g. Flax I wouldn't even...

Blood Test Strips being stopped on prescription

Jenna, I understand you're angry but I don't think abusing and insulting overweight people, of whom there are a number on this forum, is the answer. If it was as simple as stopping eating, don't you think people would just do that rather than undergoing life risking surgery? Type 2 on...

    Injecting & testing in public

Lol I'd imagine that inner thigh would be a bit more exposing even than the tummy! Type 2 on Metformin, diagnosed Jan 2013, ultra low carber, Hba1C at diagnosis 8% (64), average BS now between 5 and 6 mmol.

    New technique for finger pricking!

For me, it isn't so much that it is less painful (it does hurt, a little) but that it is more effective. I wonder if maybe it's because my fingers are a bit fat. It I prick the pads/sides, about 75% of the time I don't get anything first time. I have to reprick and reprick. Also, it's more...

    david lloyds menu

Yes, probably was the salsa, I was quite surprised when I saw how many carbs some brands of salsa had. I'm guessing maybe mushrooms have a couple as well? Still, 11g for a main meal is good, and you're obviously doing brilliantly on it :)

EAT EAT EAT ... ALL DAY LONG

Chicken shish kebab and pasta with red pesto. But only quite early on - up to about 20 weeks. Then didn't have any cravings but could just eat * anything*, as much as I wanted, never gained excess weight - being pregnant was fabulous! :) Type 2 on Metformin, diagnosed Jan 2013, ultra low...
