    Angry.....Perplexed...... dunno

Hi Shax This doesn't answer your question very directly I'm afraid but it might be useful to read anyhow. tudiabetes.org/profiles/blogs/a-practical-symlin-guide-for It's about a drug called Amylin which can help to reduce post meal sugar level spiking. It's prescribed in the US, but as far...

    does it get any better

Hi Jillybean I'm type 1 and had not very good control up until I was 27, which was 2 years back. The turning point for me were thanks to a few things: 1. being really honest with myself -probably for the first time since diagnosis 2. finding this forum -for advice and inspiration 3. really...

    Please help me.

I would be rather wary of using an iphone app to calculate your insulin dose - if you do use it be sure to test to see how accurate it predicts dosages. Be particularly on the watch out for hypos during any experimental phase.

    Please help me.

I used to have all sorts of sweets/drinks/whatever I could find for treating hypos but these things never seemed to get things right so now I just take glucose sweets to treat hypos as they're quick and I know how many carbs are in them. The fact that they're quick helps because they help to...

    Please help me.

... Also, the over-snacking is likely to be your body's reaction to being outside of the right numbers. I was doing the same thing for a number of years. Skipping meals and being either too high or low on sugar were generally what I found to be two of the main causes for this.

    Please help me.

Almost exactly 2 years ago I was in a similar position in that I took stock and faced facts that my diabetes was out of control. The things that helped me were as follows: Getting a good routine Getting the basics right (I had a problem with forgetting injections) Writing down my results each...

    Why don't restaurants......

Some diabetes meals are pretty off target from my point of view but ... during my last flight, my girlfriend and I picked one diabetes meal and one non-diabetes meal. The only difference was in the pudding where she got a cheesecake (non-diabetic) and I got fruit and raisins (diabetic menu). I...

Five celebrity diets to avoid in 2011

I think diets are fine when given on a case by case basis. Take the maple syrup diet, this may be perfectly reasonable if your day consists of not too much more than occasionally walking down a catwalk, throwing mobile phones at people and providing the odd appearance in a Michael Jackson video...

    Insulin information

I think it can work both ways as an appetite stimulant: 1. Low blood sugar levels (as a result of too much insulin) means the body needs sugar in the blood so the body 'calls out' for food energy and you become hungry. 2. High blood sugar indicates that you don't have enough insulin in your...

Big Blue Test: Give a child a week's insulin supply

Re: Watch Video :Give a child a weeks insulin supply Tally one more to the views The fact that video exists must mean there are children who simply don't get the insulin they need :( As Nigel says, anything for a worthy cause

    factoring in exercise.....

I find that a decent amount of exercise effects for me over a number of hours. I'll often find my numbers are drifting lower several hours after exercise. They say it can affect sugar levels for up to 48 hours afterwards. I've never knowingly done this but if I were to exercise moderately hard...

    Which yoghurt do you buy?

'Total' yoghurt is a good buy - 4g of carbs per 100g of yoghurt. Supermarket greek yoghurt seems to vary from 5g per 100 to 8g per 100. I avoid the low fat ones as they have more carbs - however, sometimes the packaging of the low fat ones is very similar to the non-low fat.

    non intrusive blood testing

I live in hope that the news story here could be the answer: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/news/2010/Aug/light-technology-for-diabetes-could-mean-end-of-blood-tests-96985443.html It's easy to get carried away with a story like this: Think how good our levels would be if we could test, pain and...

Eat Meat And Die or Eat Meat and Diet....?

isn't the 'leave meat out of lunchboxes' primarily concerned with avoiding bowel cancer? that's the only thing which slightly worries me about a high meat content diet. still, kidney failure, heart attack, amputations and blindness isn't much better so maybe i should stay on the relatively...

Dietician/Nurse say not to low carb

I'm relatively new to the low-carb regime. I'm still yet to have a clinic meeting since staerting so i have no idea what I'll be told by my consultant when my next appointment comes around in a couple of months. Take this with a pinch of salt as I'm no physiologist At 30 - 50g of carbohydrates...

    Sore teeth?

Thanks Dennis, I've been waiting for a cold or something to come on. Sure enough at about just gone midnight a solitary sneeze came. I was worried before then that my insulin might not be working properly. The knock on effect could be that maybe the low carb was causing me to feel like a...

    Sore teeth?

I've only started the low-carb diet recently - since 15th Feb. After the first week or so I noticed my teeth had become unusually sensitive. It was mainly my front teeth reacting to cold drinks, however, that seems to have passed. The unlucky thing is that I've started to get other undesirable...
