    Back to work tomorrow

For stacey-28. Deep breath lass and throw yourself into it. I think your problem is not the diabetes, but anxiety about juggling the new routines with the everyday pressures of working and being a parent. I was in a similar situation. I was very ill for a long time (slow onset type 1), had a...

    type 1 on metformin

I was on slow release metformin a while back and it was 2 tablets a day ( a total of 1 gram metformin SR, which was the maximum dose). I personally would check the amount of the amount of drug per tablet and read the instructions leaflet that comes in the pack. I would just check that 4 tablets...

    type 1 on metformin

Metformin can help type 1 who are insulin resistant, or those who have both type of diabetes (the dreaded double-diabetes). I take Metformin has really help me keep my BG more stable and reduce my insulin requirments.

Dizzy and feeling sick all the time for 3 months

It might be unrelated to diabetes. It sounds more like an inner ear balance thing. For example labyrinthitis or vestibular nerve inflammation. My husband and a friend have both recently suffered from these conditions and the symptoms (dizziness and nausea) sound very similar. Look after your...

    Insulin dosage query

I think this is more important whilst you are newish to insulin, probably honeymooning and suffering with changing insulin requirements. Some people have suggested doing a night time wake up alarm and BG check. This might be wise until you are confident that you won't hypo in your sleep. Best of...

Any one with type one diabetes and insulin resistance?

Hi, Yes I take metformin in addition to lantus and novorapid. I am type 1, but probably also type 2 too. I found metafomin helpful. Like you my insulin requirement were rising faster than I could calculate increases and keep up. (about 100 units a day). The metformin has stopped the rise and...

    Two mince pies at lunchtime...

Mince pies do exactly the same to me. They are the very Devil of diabetes

Thanks Noblehead, I found your link very helpful too :-)

How long was I diabetic before I was diagnosed?

My type 1 journey took about 4 years. I had one high BG reading late in pregnancy and following the birth of my daughter I probably had about 1.5 years of feeling ill. Lots of infections, heart arrythmia, fatigue, weight loss, muscle wasting (the list goes on) I put it down to to having a baby...

    Autoimmune comditions

Psoraisis, which came before diabetes. I just hope it stops there :-(

    Eating out

I agree with what most people say about waiting for the food to arrive and then do a quick carb estimate. If it is a long meal with many courses, you can take a couple of doses to be accurate and avoid a low. I do inject at the table now, but it did take me a while to feel brave enought to...

Type 1 diabetes and pregnancy in late 30s

I just wanted to wish you all the best for a healthy future pregnanacy. I sounds like you are reasonably well controlled and being pregnant (diabetic or not) is the greatist inspiration for taking extra care of yourself. The fact that you have posted your questions and have concerns suggests...

    Just for fun..type 1 sayings..

'Sugar drunk like a bad tempered wasp!' Unfortunately describes me all too often. 'And life on shifting sands'. Anyone with diabetes will understand that one

    skin conditions and unhelpful GP's

Not neccessarily Mariai. I was diagnosed as type 2 about 4 years ago. I started on high doses of metformin and glipizide. I initally responded well, and after a couple of months I even reached the point I needed to reduced the medication down to one wee metformin tablet a day. Things were good...

Feeling very belittled by the pharmacist

Thanks everyone. I have changed pharmacy, unfortunately it is another Lloyds, but hopefully the pharmacist will be more helpful.

    Diabetic etiquette

I found myself in an identical situation. I just went up and said, "I hope you don't think me rude, but I heard that you are type 1.....and so on". She has helped me adapt to being type 1 and we have shared a few laughs about some of the more ridiculous things about being type 1. So I would say...

Can insulin needs DROP during honeymoon period?

I think it can. I was mis-diagnosed at first as type 2 (with a BG of 29). I started on oral meds, which were gradually increased until I got a good level of control (NO INSULIN). After a few month I had to drastically reduce the dose of the oral meds, almost completely stopping, because I was...

Feeling very belittled by the pharmacist

Yep yep yep check and check. I agree and can empathize with everything you have said. I was diagnosed as polycystic ovary syndrome at aged 22 (hormone imbalances but no ovarian cysts) and over the years I have played around with my diet and have found higher carb leads to greater hormone...

Feeling very belittled by the pharmacist

Hi Ambersilva, I normal do order well ahead of time. I just got caught out this time. I am pathologically organised and get very stressed when I let things slide or miss deadlines. One mistake in four years of diabetes! That is why I was so upset because I try so hard to be organised.

Feeling very belittled by the pharmacist

You are very astute Uart. Yes I am overweight and I have been all my adult life, despite an active, hard working, good living lifestyle :-(. The only time I was a "healthy" weight was just before I diagnosed, I had dropped 4 stone in weight, very quickly, with no effort. Despite that obvious...
