    So Here's A Loaded Question!

You have been so careful for so long and deserve a 'day off'. Perhaps another time it might be an idea to go to a 'tea shop' for tea so that you don't have to wash up afterwards. If you choose a quiet time of day your daughter should manage with you, and you can look at the menu before you go so...

    Help With Buying Pre-made Lunches

Being diagnosed with diabetes is a wake up call for each of us. While we are changing our diet it is a good time to look at the rest of our life and work out what matters. Take a step back, it is too easy to slip into being too busy and your children will appreciate your time and attention...

    What's Going On

Those figures are high, but there are any number of things that may have caused them. The heat, your liver dumping because you have not eaten, what you did eat, even some statins may tend to raise bg levels ( check the label inside the box for possible side effects). It may take a bit of...

    Is Eating Low Carb Expensive?

IT gets even better when you save the time of walking down that aisle and skip along to the ones that have the products you want. That works until the Spring, when the supermarket manager decides to move everything round and you can not find what you want.

Why Can't I Sort Myself Out?!

Why not prepare a sandwich box with your choice of salad the night before? It takes 5mins. Then grab from the fridge in the morning. Mixed leaves, cucumber, full fat coleslaw, a couple of cherry toms, some olives then meat/fish/cheese of choice. This year I have been having a large pot of ready...

    Telling People You're Diabetic

I live my life as an open book, with a couple of chapters firmly kept for my eyes only. I find it easiest that way, I can not remember for the life of me who I have told and who not. Discovering I was moving into diabetes and deciding to start checking my bg 2 hours after eating meant that my...

    Type 2 Newly Diagnosed

Life has a habit of kicking us when we are down. You had made improvements, you can do the same again but learn from this experience. What was the trigger? Did you stop eating low carb or has your body gone into revolt? If the latter then seek help from your HCP. If you stopped eating low carb...

Consipation On Low Carb Diet - How Do You Deal With It?

I can honestly say that I have never had a problem, but then summer and winter I find that my food is based around vege and a few berries with a portion of meat/fish/dairy added. that aspect of the 'Eatwell plate' is good - 5 portions of fruit and veg each day with the emphasis being on the veg.

Do I Need A Bgm Machine?

How do you know what effect the individual foods you are eating is having on your bg? We are all different so some can tolerate wheat flour, others can not. Occasional tests at the Drs give broad spectrum information but not in sufficient detail to be of use to you on a daily basis...

    Type 2 Newly Diagnosed

Hi @nbenn , please do not leave it until September to make a start changing your diet. Order the packs of strips for your meter online and tick the box that asks if you are diabetic, that way you don't pay VAT and it is considerably cheaper than buying them in the High Street. I found keeping a...

    Steak & Kidney Pudding

Why do you think they floured the cloth? The flour thickens and acts as a barrier in the cloth to stop the water getting to the crust. When you had to fetch water from a pump (if you were lucky) then heat it you made the most use you could of the heat and water. Washing took most of the day and...

    Type 2

Check the leaflet inside the box for known possible side effects. If headaches are possible then go back to the doctor and ask if there is an alternative that you could be prescribed.

    Help, Where Is It?

When are you testing? Have you looked back at what was in the meal that was maybe too heavy in carbohydrates or has he developed an intolerance to grain flours. Stress, heat, lack of sleep, anxiety all play a part. There are so many things that it could be. This may help. Test before eating and...

    Lower Carb Commercial Foods

Asda ready soups -read the label but about 10g carb for half a pot. Eat cold for a light meal while it is hot and sufficient left for the next day. There is variety too - broccolli and stilton, cream of mushroom, chicken and mushroom etc. The empty pots make great little starter pots for seeds too.

    Steak & Kidney Pudding

Oh to have a real Steak and kidney pudding again - without feeling guilty. Better still a Sussex pond pudding made with a whole lemon smothered in butter and sugar (sweetener?) in a suet crust and then steamed until the lemon turns to lemon curd. I can imagine that as being a washday treat...

    The Usual Story ...

Welcome to the forum @gettingamoveon. The next question for you is do you have your own bg meter? If you do then you can check which foods cause spikes in your own body, we are all different and our bodies can tolerate different things in moderation and some not at all. If you keep a note of the...

    Long Road Back

It is altogether too easy to slip into the mentality that after a hard day/ while a way for a couple of days we deserve a treat. The 'treats' then mount up. It is never easy to cut back, easier to find a new, low carb treat and swap that in. Some people find that it is easiest to tread the same...

    Have Been Awol

You may have slipped up for a couple of weeks, I left my meter with a relative for a few months at the beginning of the year. When I retrieved it I dreaded the first reading, not because I had been eating carb heavy foods but because I knew I had let my exercise regime go, almost completely...
