What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

5.6 this am...up a little earlier (maybe I got there before my liver did).:)

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Pain in the backside. Other people's noise drives me up the wall when it is just inconsiderate...always has (and I drive my wife bonkers with it). Police Scotland...aye...I have a rough idea what they will do about it - forget to call you back, misplace the complaint, or (at best) let you know...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

8.6 yesterday morning ! No idea why...readings generally a bit higher this week..hmmmm. I didn't actually spend Valentine's Day with my diabetes consultant as it happens; snowed in ! Why did my parents not conceive me in Provence ? Probably because they seldom got out of the Gorbals.

    Meter Readings

Good luck @Jb1965. I'm sure you will get your HbA1c level right down if you stick to a diet which you can see is working with help of a meter. By the way...that is some size of engine in that bike !

    Meter Readings

Personally, I take up to 3 hours to digest to the extent that a reading is worth considering. We are not all the same, as you will know..and the 2 hour thing is not carved in stone. For me, depending on what I eat, a nice low reading at only 2 hours post meal would be misleading...so i test 2.5...

Low carbWeekend and spikes in BG

Below 6 is fine. The recommendation for Type 2s is to aim for a jump of 2mmols or less two hours after eating...and trying to keep that top figure post meal at under 8.5mmols. So, basically, 6 is a bit high if your pre-meal two hours earlier was under 4...but not by much and I think it's safe to...

Difference between type 1 and 2 diabetes?

10mg still makes control of the blood sugar way less than easy, John. I think I started on either 40 or 80mg and that was being slowly reduced in the first year post transplant. I believe the intention was to keep me on around 20mg for life (or the life of the kidney) but I was getting spikes...

Difference between type 1 and 2 diabetes?

I know that transplant patients (at least here in Scotland) are warned before taking the steroids the doctors are prescribing that there is a risk of developing Type 2 as the blood sugar will spike and, loosely speaking, the pancreas will be challenged the longer one is on steroids. Those on a...

Difference between type 1 and 2 diabetes?

I regularly see one of 4 renal specialists and a diabetes consultant and all refer to my diabetes as Steroid Induced Type 2 Diabetes having initially diagnosed it as New Onset Diabetes a couple of months on treatment with Prednisolone (which I had been warned about pre-transplant). None of them...

    Advice

Honestly, I would advise you to get a handle on the stress as it is big factor in increasing blood sugar a swell as being just a negative force in you physically, emotionally and mentally. Testing all the time is entirely unnecessary as well as impractical. If you record what you eat along with...

    Hello from new Type 2

Hi Terry. I see @Rachox has tagged daisy1...she will be along with some very good stuff for you to consider. I am sure you will gain from joining the site/community; I certainly have. low carb dieting has been the way for me...no meds just diet. I would advise you think about recording what you...

Difference between type 1 and 2 diabetes?

This is absolutely not the case for a large number of Type 2 diabetics...and for many who can it is a constant struggle. I have no doubt, personally that Type 1 is a more serious condition but it really gets to me that there is a tendency by some to minimise the issues Type 2s deal with like it...

Difference between type 1 and 2 diabetes?

I don't think it's naive...nor do I think it is said with any intent other than to inform and help...but it is a little too simplistic is all. In my own case, I was diagnosed with Steroid Induced Diabetes (Type 2) after a couple of months of steroids as part of my anti-rejection treatment post...
