Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

You play more golf than I eat low carb foods. These granddaughters get a lot of visits too, eh? Too late for me to have grandchildren; maybe I should think about golf!

    Exams

Hi. I saw the word "exams" on the main forum page while I was bored and thought I'd check it out. 55 does not count as a "young person" I know..that went out the window decades ago! I was, however, a teacher for years (from wee kids to A level students) and was well involved in exam...

    My sweet tooth

Hi. Good advice from others above. I would really suggest avoiding raisins. If you don't have meter - buy one...you won't regret it. We don't know what your blood sugar levels are..and although there are some things that most of us would be better avoiding (eg. bread, spuds, pasta, rice, pizza)...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

Thanks. I still don't get the big difference in readings between two fingers seconds apart. 8.2 and 9.1 ! I don't expect a perfect match but that's quite a difference. I thought the first reading was bad till I saw the second one. Either way....tooooo high. Off to bed now...no liver...

    Recently diagnosed

Hi. I'm sure we would all be interested to know what your blood sugar level is. The main test is an HbA1c which informs as to your average blood sugar level over the preceding 3 months. If you get a self-testing meter (please do get one..even if they tell you you don't need one - and they...

This morning's level was 8.2! I thought...maybe a bad strip or something. Jabbed a different finger - 9.1! o_O Way higher than my usual. I think my attempt at a liver block may have backfired...just some nuts though. 5.9 a few hours later.

    My first 3month HbA1c

Ah! I can shed some light on why your dietitian thinks you need to eat starchy foods etc and produce the odd spike here and there - simple reason is that she lacks the training and/or the will to talk through the correct end. I would completely avoid being anywhere near anyone who can have a...

News just in - hba1c after 8 weeks

That's really great, @grante. I am willing to bet it isn't reducing by itself; I suspect you have had just a bit to do with that! Well done.

After a couple of years here I know what liver dump is...but what specifically do you mean by "liver block"?

If I had 4.9 and sunshine, I'd post twice too. ;)

    Type 1 Kidneys/ACR

I was extremely fortunate, Paul, in managing to "steal" one from my sister just as my kidney function got to the dialysis stage. I was on the list at 15% function and had prepared for four hours three days a week on the machine and was due to have line out in, when she changed the whole game...

Can Type 2 be caused by Pancreatic/gall bladder probs?

Very informative. I just wanted, pedantically, to clarify that when you say "most folk in the UK have type 2 diabetes" you do mean that most people in the UK with diabetes have type 2 diabetes. I mean, I know its getting pretty grim but it's not quite as grim is that right now. ;) Who knows...

    Need advice about E-cigarettes - I am type 1

Just a wee motivational dunt... when I stopped smoking about 4 years ago (after deciding not to let the nicotine deliver system manufacturer's get another penny out of me), I bought a brand new car; the monthly payments were about the same as my 30 a day habit. It's near to paid off now. Not...

    can i have these?

Lindt 90% cocoa dark chocolate bars (14g barb per 100g...a couple of squares a day is probably ok for a lot of us so long as our pre-munch level is decent; check your meter before and two hours after and avoid more than a 2mmols spike - that reading should be ideally around 8.5mmols at most...

    can i have these?

Hi. 11g of carbohydrate for every 20g - look at it this way, the bar is over 50% carbohydrates. Now, I am not saying that once in a while, if your blood sugar is nice and low (and weight isn't much of an issue), you absolutely cannot have one. What I think you should take on board is that...
