Difference between Keto and Low Carb - members’ experiences

Have you heard of "keto flu"? if you don't get enough electrolytes on keto you can feel sick. I get plenty of salt in my diet and take a magnesium supplement. It can get tricky if you have a reason to eat low sodium.

Keto diet: what counts as keto? Can you do it l’on term?

I try to stay under 30 g carbs, but if you are getting good results where you are at, that may be low enough. My husband eats low carb, but not keto. He eats less fat, more veggies than me. He is off all meds and has normal A1C. I am doing keto and still take metformin. You may want to check...

    Counting carbs

Calories deficits can be anything below maintenance, I was not advocating very low calorie diets.

    Counting carbs

I log food on an app that tracks calories and macros. I try to stay under 20g net ( subtracting fiber and sugar alcohol). Some people do total carb. If logging seems burdensome you can try cutting back on carbs without tracking and see how that goes. I was eating too many calories and my weight...

Way OT: Hearing, ear wax and hearing aids

I am in the US. What is involved in microremoval? My audiologist uses a tool to pull out wax. My ear wax is sticky and clogs my hearing aids but I can change the filter. The ENT I saw used a suction. My primary care uses water. That is too bad you have to go elsewhere. Sorry I don't know more...

Fasting glucose higher than when I was not watching caebs

I have type 2 and take 500 mg metformin in am and 1000 in pm. I had a lot of luck with low carb/keto in past but went back to regular diet with higher carbs. I am trying to get back to low carb but it is frustrating. Today I have had coffee with heavy cream, chia pudding from coconut milk and...

    Statins

Anecdotally they lowered my triglycerides before I changed my diet, but eating low carb helped additionally. I have been on a statin for years. The more I hear, the more I would like to get off of it. I am going to talk to my dr about it next visit.

Giving blood with Type 2 - thoughts?

I donate blood every few months. It can make your A1C read lower because you are producing new red blood cells that aren’t as glycolated. My endocrinologist knows I donate blood.

What do you think about people who cant just get over or forgive their abusive childhood

I think the key is acceptance. Accepting that he did not have a father who cared for him and he could depend on. As far as I know, he has moved on. I don’t think he has to forgive him. I would have a hard time with that.

Has anyone refused insulin for gestational diabetes?

They missed gestational diabetes in me. I had a GTT that was normal, but had an 11 lb baby (c section) he aspirated meuconium and was in nicu for a week, his glucose was okay. You can get another opinion and maybe get an oral medication, but please find someone who you trust and follow the advice.

    Keto with high blood pressure

Thank you. I have an update I went to the dr for blood pressure check. She checked it manually 120/80. She thinks the automatic reader may not read my bp correctly. She still wants me to keep sodium around 2 g. I have cut back and feel fine.

    Keto with high blood pressure

Thank you. That is reassuring that it can improve. I did not see anything specific on sodium, just the sheet they gave the participants saying some people need more sodium on low carb diet. I was adding bullion cubes to bone broth. I have cut down from 2 to 1/2 of one. I feel fine. Bp about...

    Keto with high blood pressure

I am type 2 diabetic. I did keto with good results, but I felt deprived of some foods and went off. I recently restarted and am already seeing positive changes in glucose levels. My blood pressure has been creeping up over the past few years. I just started monitoring it and it runs 140s over...
