    Spare Insulin Pens when travelling

That it can be stored below 30 once opened. A Novorapid pen lasts me for weeks, so it's significant to not have to store it in a fridge, numerous med advice sites give this guidance.

    Spare Insulin Pens when travelling

I don't keep my pens in a fridge, unless the temperature is very hot they don't need to be. Does anyone think they are refrigerated when they arrive at the pharmacist?

    Alcohol.

The carbs are usually balanced out by the alcohol for me.

    Does anyone agree?

I didn't know anyone with diabetes before I was diagnosed so didn't know much about the implications of certain foods. Saying that i wouldn't dream of telling someone what they can and can't eat. Since being diagnosed myself I must say it's really annoying when people make assumptions of what...

    Type 1 - Skiing Holiday

Hi BL, I didn't notify my travel insurance, it's not something that they've ever asked about.

I feel like I'm pumping too much insulin?

Everyone is different, my basal has always dwarfed my bolus. I'm 26 Levemir on basal, and typically >15 on bolus, mainly because I don't eat much in the morning, or lunchtime as I just feel a bit urrgh. My problem is I have a dinner which has most my carbs, and I know this is why I'm not...

    Taking wrong insulin

It is! I moved my Levemir from lunchtime to evening because I usually go to the gym in the evening, and exercising just before my Levemir means i hardly, or don't need to fuel the exercise with additional carbs. I'm struggling to adjust though, doing it at lunchtime with lunch at work meant it...

When will I know my honeymoon period is over?

For me I just needed more insulin than what i had previously, and adjusted accordingly. I tested a lot, and this forced me to acknowledge the old dosage wasn't doing what I needed it to do.

    Very happy newbie!

My diagnosis aged 38 in Jan 2013 was a hammer blow, I found that I needed to be self sufficient on this subject as I simply didn't know any other people who had a similar experience This place is great for advice, and there is a lot of good info on the web, so welcome, and ping me if you want...

    Type 1: Prescription fine

Good to know this, I was diagnosed in Jan 2013, all has been ok with my GP to date, long may it continue.

    Very happy newbie!

I get this, I felt so bad for so long before I was diagnosed. I felt relief when diagnosed, and it became something that I could manage. Well done with the BG, it's a journey, but one worth taking. You will have high points and low points in this journey, one high point for me was...

Blood sugar goes up in the morning on its own!

I never eat breakfast, my BG does rise, but usually by 2-3mmol by lunchtime. If I upped my basal I'd hypo during the night, so just need to take corrective doses of Novorapid as needed.

    High and ketones

Visit your GP or hospital asap and get them to help you manage your BG with medication.

    Type 1: Prescription fine

This is pretty similar to my experience in that I've been told I was medically exempt so don't have to pay. I've still not paid for anything yet, or any fines, despite never having seen any sort of certificate.

Special Diabetic Clinics rather than GP surgeries

Have been told I have to be treated as a hospital outpatient as T1, usually 6 months between appointments, but now haven't seen them for 15 months. They add no value, so no big miss on my part, the internet has always been my biggest support function.

If you were to walk into McDonalds...

Depends what I'm doing after, if I'm at maccy d's I'm probably on the high street with the mrs, so walking around, so would go for 3 units of novorapid.
