Double Digits! Good or Evil!? >;)

I have 1 unit of Novarapid per 15g of carbs, so I have on the odd carb binge done 10 to 12 units. No big deal for me, generally I eat around 100g of carbs a day so no big deal.

    Aches and pains

After I was diagnosed I had massive nerve pain in my feet, knees, shoulders, and just about anywhere with nerve endings, I literally could hardly walk at one point. I had to use opiate based pain killers to enable me to sleep, those were very dark days, and gladly behind me now.

Poll: Which diabetes course(s) have you attended?

T1 diagnosed two years ago, the only opportunity I had was a cancellation on a carb counting course, with less than two weeks notice, I couldn't as was working abroad that week, all booked so no chance of cancelling. I've heard nothing since. Mind you I'm not surprised as I'm an outpatient...

I know I'm up for "fun" when this happens...

Looks like a fancy bit of kit lol. What is that?

    2 years

Honeymoon period probably, I was diagnosed T1 2 years ago and have increased my insulin by about 60% in this period.

    Diabetes and Stress?

It may be worth starting to think about leaving and suing then for constructive dismissal.

Lantus bad choice if you exercise?

No probs, I'll message you her Linkedin details. I found her advice, and general helpfulness as a beacon of light in what has been an underwhelming support experience from the NHS since diagnosis two years ago.

    Holiday

In hot temperatures my insulin sensitivity increases loads. Also don't change your habits too much, I never put my insulin in the fridge, I did whilst on holiday tho summer, hence me leaving it there when I left the hotel.

Getting a little annoyed with normal blood sugar.

Went to hospital with 45, brought it down quickly and suffered from very painful and serious nerve endings damage in my feet. Two years later the feet are ok, and overall feeling loads better, and have put on the 3 stone I lost. I feel hypo anything under 4.5, I guess this will get better over...

Lantus bad choice if you exercise?

I use Levemir once a day for my basal, it does tail off for me after about 20 hrs . I've taken to exercising in the 20-24 hr window after my last Levemir dose, and make sure I don't eat beforehand for a few hours, so this means I have minimal amounts of insulin in my body, so need little or no...

    Gary Scheiner confession..

If we had predictable lives we'd have predictable BG readings. Maybe I'm speaking for myself only though, I struggle to manage my BG when travelling, different time zone, temperatures, and schedules. Stress hormones make a massive difference for me as well, last year, I had an incident when...

    Type 1: Prescription fine

A technicality for sure, I will get a certificate just to avoid any hassle. However, it just shows how **** the process is, two years of paying nothing and no challenge on my ticking a box means that they wouldn't have a leg to stand on in any sort of legal sense.

    Type 1: Prescription fine

It's not that, the NHS has no ability to charge in a consistent manner across the NHS, nothing to do with government, just sh*t administration of the NHS. I haven't a certificate, and this thread is an eye opener, as a type1 diagnosed two years ago, I just tick the box based on a doctor telling...

    Doctors letter for overseas travel?

This is an eye opener, I travel a lot, I just have my insulin pens in the normal liquids transparent bag, and needles and testing kit in my hand luggage. I've never been asked for anything, but I may get a dr's letter, on the other hand unless they actually verify it then it isn't worth the...

    Just Diagnosed

It's a hell of lot to take in, all the information, and getting to grips with injecting insulin. The pain of injections will go away as they just become the norm, I hate needles too, but have just got used to it. In general I'd recommend reading 'Think Like a Pancreas' and if you do...

Camping in france in hot weather

I always need significantly less insulin in hot weather, if I take my normal amount I hypo. Monitor carefully and adjust if needed.

    3 year restricted driving license

I was given a 3yr license immediately, and there was zero track record of managing my BG. I also think that unless I volunteered my license there is no way they would have rescinded my original license. Sounds like you're special :)

    Type 1 - Skiing Holiday

Hi All, I thought I'd share a good story, I just got back from Meribel, after a week of snowboarding in the Alps. I was diagnosed a Type 1, two years ago aged 38, I went for my first snow holiday this time last year, and managed OK, but not great. This year the snowboarding was much better...

    Advice on going out drinking

Research the effects of what you are drinking, beer, wine, and spirits all have different effects on BG. If I'm drinking wine / spirits all afternoon / evening at a BBQ I won't take any insulin as the alcohol does that job, so bear in mind the effect of alcohol on BG. Most important check...
