Amazing thread in so many ways.

    baked beans sugar level

Interesting, i only use 1 unit of Novorapid for every 10g of carbs. I do 38 units of Levemir daily though.

    Quick Levemir question

12hrs is nowhere near the mark for me, I take Levemir, don't split it. It lasts 22-23hrs for me, it's approx 65-70% of my overall of my total insulin daily, so it's fundamental I know how this works.

What happened to this guy who was 'cured' of type 1?

    You don't sound like a T1.

    Holiday! Travelling with extra insulin....

How long are you going for? How many pens are you taking, and what temp do you think you need to keep them below?

    Newly diagnosed type 1

Hi Jade, firstly, we all have BIG ups and downs, it goes with the territory, it sounds like you're a trooper :) Sometimes I have to remind myself that I need a bit more leeway in terms of day to day 'fitness', and that I'm not what i was, but you can train on with fitness. I've gone on from...

    Work, illness and diabetes

I'd be amazed if most employers' understand the impact of T1 Diabetes. However I'm not sure if or why general sick rules such as cold and flu, are any different for people with diabetes. Having T1 I'm legally classed as disabled, the reality is that as an office worker it means nothing, I'm...

News: Jamie Oliver urges Government to ban selling energy drinks to children

I really struggle with the concept of Jamie and his crusades, extremely patronising to say the least, the responsibility is with the parents not the govt to become food police.

Going abroad for the first time!

In my 5 years as a T1 I've travelled extensively personally, and for work. I just put my insulin pens in the liquids and gels bag, never had any hassle.

Anybody else panic at the doctor's?

I get around the whole GP issue by not going to see them. Definitely not recommended, but my experience with GP, and the consultant I was assigned to means it's a waste of everyone's time.

Arrested for drunk in charge when actually Hyperglycaemic

I screwed up in this respect recently, I doubled up on my basal by mistake due to changing timezones so i had some overlap (my basal makes up 70% of my insulin intake, so a 4 hr overlap was significant). The police were totally ignorant, handcuffed me, and put me in a cell. The treatment I...

    Diabetes has ruined my life

LOL it's random, was just listing things out, and snowboarding is probably the most complex in terms of the insulin regime. Definitely sex the most important though!

    Diabetes has ruined my life

I was diagnosed as T1 aged 37, I'm 43 now, I can honestly say I still do the things that I used to do. Snowboarding, cycling, sex, travelling, cooking, working, working out, socialising, partying etc. I see T1 as a bit of an inconvenience, rather than something that stops me doing things...

Levemir split dose - am I weird?

I take 36 units in the evening, that is all.
  15. J

    Total daily insulin dose.

I'm 6'3 and 88KG I take 36 units Levemir daily, my fast acting varies a lot, between 10 - 40 units of Novarapid, usually at the lower end of that though.

    Sick

The liver dumps glucose not insulin was my understanding.

    Is this normal?

you don't fluctuate half a stone day to day, scales are inaccurate

Never found my mojo for diabetes

Diagnosis was a relief to me aged 38, (4.5 years ago) so weak and ill, and mmol of around 45. I've sort of got it under control, have a few bad readings a few days a week, but generally get it right. I'm quite ambivalent to the whole thing, in that it doesn't rule my life, I enjoy going out...

Started insulin, gained weight. Help please.

I experienced weight gain beyond my pre diabetic weight after being diagnosed despite the same diet and lifestyle. In the T1 thread I was shouted down, including by a mod that manufactured insulin doesn't make a difference. I went to a diabetic nutritionist and she said it was a recognised...
