    Blood sugar spike after sex...

Sex releases stress hormones which can significantly impact your BG levels, according to my health team. As can other things. In my last job I found presenting to huge audiences in a pressured environment could shoot my BG to 20mmol without having eaten, and using my usual basal.

Acute Infected Necrotising Pancreatitis and Beyond...

You are indeed inspirational, massively! I thought I was doing well to get back on the bike for a few hours at a time once I was diagnosed, and managing my BG when snowboarding.

    GYM & BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVELS

hi, it's variable per person, from what you describe my BG wouldn't drop, it's less intense cardio, and after longer periods it drops and I need to start fuelling. Very useful info here...http://www.teambloodglucose.com/TeamBG/Type_1_Basics.html

    Getting it under control

My BG was very high, and apparently had been for a long time, when I was diagnosed. I brought it down and immediately ran into massive problems with nerve pain, due to the body adjusting to much lower BG levels, this is a danger to lowering too quickly. I was on opiate based pain relief and...

    Happy 6 year anniversary

Hi Beth, I had one main attack of acute sever pancreatitis which nearly killed me, and one much smaller episode a few months later, both about 6 years ago, I can only massively sympathise with you as someone who had chronic pancreatitis, and so many hospital admissions. I think if I was in your...

Type 3c - how many are we?

I had an episode of acute sever pancreatitis at the end of 2008, I nearly died, and I think it's something like a 25% death rate for acute severe pancreatitis in the UK anyway. I wasn't in hospital that long, and they released me when my BG started to normalise. It was quite strange the...

How much do you notice being high?

The only time I run really high, as I don't eat much, is from stress hormones, usually a very stressful work situation. I can run into the 20's and not feel anything other than the adrenaline and stress that I'm feeling.

    Levemir and morning hypos

Why do you split your dose in this way? I take 34 units once a day,but I'm aware my BG will creep up in the two hours before.

    Describing symptoms to non-diabetics

Hypo just describe as losing cognitive ability, hyper I don't know as I don't detect it.

Type 2 Increased readings after exercise

In the short term exercise raises BG,loads of stuff out there about it.

    Painful Feet

I was diagnosed at 45mmol, when I started to bring my BG under control I had massive nerve pains, mainly in my feet, I could hardly walk at one point, for a few months it was debilitating, gradually it improved and I can walk like normal, run even, wear proper shoes. My Dr. put the issue down to...

    BG Monitor Accuracy/Fault

Thanks all for the responses :) When I was diagnosed they gave me the meter when I was discharged from hospital, with no advice other than how to stick a strip in the meter. My medical support is basically zero now, I just order my insulin & test strips online. I have had the same meter...

    BG Monitor Accuracy/Fault

Hi All, I have been using the same monitor since diagnosed, a Glucomen LX, worked fine, BG generally under control. Two weeks ago my BG readings started to go way higher than usual, and no longer be logical, for example a morning reading of 12, I gave myself a corrective dose, ate nothing...

    Tinned tomatoes??

I don't understand why you think the tinned tomatoes could be a problem when pasta has far more carbs. Can you elaborate on the concern?

    New to Diabetes

When I was diagnosed (BG >40mmol) I was told it would take a while to bring my BG down as it had been very high for a long period, and that I would experience hypo symptoms at >4 mmol. If you're BG isn't well controlled hypo symptoms are not unexpected at >4mmol, not saying yours aren't, just...

    Couldn't resist!!

Totally agree with the bolded, diabetes may slow us down sometimes, but should never stop us.:) We sometimes get kicked in the teeth in life, it's how you respond that is the measure.

    Couldn't resist!!

Sounds like you've lived a great life living in those countries, and experiencing so much. My own approach is just try and understand how many carbs you are eating, and give myself the corresponding insulin. I love to party even at the age of 40 and diabetes doesn't stop me :)

    Type 1 and pump

I think you're right with pros and cons, and for myself I don't want one as I hate the thought of something attached to me and the maintenance side, also i do mountain biking, snowboarding and other sports that may not be compatible. Also I like just going out with a stick of NR and some gluc...

    Type 1 and Pancreatitis

I had one episode of acute severe pancreatitis, it destroyed most of my pancreas. Although my pancreas recovered in the short term, a couple of years later I was diagnosed with T1. I am a T1 in respect that I'm insulin dependent, but I'm not insulin dependent because of my autoimmune system...

    There's no pleasing some people....

Although much newer to diabetes than you, my diet has never been discussed either :). I also don't have a healthcare team lol, except Insulin and strips.
