    Diabetes and Migraine

I very rarely, if ever, have had a headache so severe that it could be described as a migrine. However, I do get headache extremely frequently and have done now for well over a year. When I was drinking alcohol regularly; ie a few drinks (sometimes much more) every day, it was a convenient...

    hard skin

Oh blimey Ken, you've just crushed my butterfly. I'm about to join a local gym tomorrow and I've specifically chosen this one as it has an excellent hot tub and steam room adjacent to the swimming pool. Your surely not suggesting that anyone with betes shouldn't be using the hot tub or steam...

    Help for newly Diagnosed please

Hi scotthun and welcome to the forum. :) I'd gladly swap your BG readings for mine right now. Just to add something more to the two previous posts; in addition to this forum I've bought 2 books which have proved to be invaluable - namely "the first year Type 2 diabetes" by Grethen Becker and...

Grapefruit and T2 - diet only

Hi Gilly, One of my minor irritations at the moment is that, as a T2 on diet control only, I am ineligible for free prescriptions. Bit of a personal conundrum for me this one as I'm determined NOT to go meds and I'm doing what I can on a personal basis to take an active interest and proactive...

    Benfotiamine

I've been suffering with pains in my hands, legs and feet on and off all day today. I feel a bit disappointed as it's the first time it has happened since my diagnosis. Especially as I've been off the booze for a month as well as been taking Benfotiamine for just over a week now. Unless of...

    varifocals: it's official, I'm middle-aged

I'm 48 so officially well into middle age. I started wearing glasses a couple of years ago; particularly for when I'm on my laptop or the pc at home (like now). Initially I did go for variofocals, but couldn't wear them as it make me feel dizzy and physically ill. The optician (specsavers)...

    Trouble At Mill?

To be perfectly honest, I find this forum so useful I haven't even bothered looking for alternatives. diabetes.co.uk/forum................there is NO substitute. 8) (brown envelope to my usual PO Box please mods  )

The Big Fat Lies about Britain's obesity epidemic

I quickly scanned down the link; way too long to read in full (I have a very short attention span). Taking a step back from the main points of the article, I too think that the FSA are to blame. However, not because they are telling us all unwittingly to eat the wrong things but because they...

Thanks LGC, Yes, I'm a dab hand with the microwave and can prepare scrambled egg that way all by myself.

Grapefruit and T2 - diet only

Gilly, I'm a "can't cook, won't cook" kinda guy, but even I can go to the supermarket and buy a handful of ready to eat (washed) bags of salad. They are quick, easy and cost no more than £1 a bag. Dead easy with a piece of red or white meat

    Trouble At Mill?

I was a bit confused and alarmed by that post too to be honest. Although I'm a newbie (less than 1 month on the forum) I visit the forum daily and post regularly but have to confess to totally missing any huge bust ups or slanging matches. Pity really, I love a good punch up.

Grapefruit and T2 - diet only

Hi Gilly, In my case it increased my BG by about 40%; but then again I am a big bloke and was eating Desperate Dan portions every morning. I recall when I posted previously about porridge some of the forum regulars said they sprinkled cinnamin on theirs, which I believe helps to...

Grapefruit and T2 - diet only

Since finding out the hard way that porridge for breakfast sends my BG through the roof I'm looking for acceptable alternatives. I'm now fed up with toast (brown bread of course) and don't have the time for bacon and eggs midweek. Can one of the kind guru's on this forum please confirm that...

type 2 and new to this please help

I guess it's different strokes for different folks. As a newly diagnoses T2 myself I'm determined to keep the betes under control by diet, supplements and exercise for now (altho' I still haven't rejoined the gym yet  ) Having tried the Atkins diet previously I've a fair idea the foods...

    Cider vinegar really works!!!

According to the book called "Vinegar 1001 Practical Uses" vinegar, like apples, should be consumed daily The book states that apple cider vinegar is very effective on detoxifying various organs in the body, together with the blood stream. It can also aid digestion and in neutralises toxic...

    Cider vinegar really works!!!

As a newbie I've been experimenting with various things to try and get my BG down. One thing I'm now doing (when I remember) is to have a pint of water with a capful of cider vinegar each night before I go to bed, as I've read that cider vinegar and things like lemon juice help keep the BG...
