    Ask A Silly Question ??

I was always told there is no such thing as a silly question; there are just silly answers. This may well be one of them. My understanding is that, once diagnosed, you will remain a diabetic for the rest of your life; a bit like being an alcoholic I guess. Sensible diet and everything...

    Dry Skin

Thanks everyone. We have a 1 year old dog and being a bit of a cleanliness fanatic I tend to wash my hands frequently after every time I come into contact with him. I guess that doesn't help things either, but good point about the liquid soap mehdave. Instead of buying the stuff from the...

    A cocktail of supplements

I'm not sure if this is posted in the appropriate section, but if not I'm sure the mods will move it accordingly. As a recently diagnosed T2 (diet only) I'm keen to pro actively assist my quest to lower my BG and cholesterol. After much research and monitoring of this forum I've decided to...

    kidney scan ?

I had a few kidney stones removed 2 or 3 years ago; one by zapping the other by operation. Ironically, it was a trip to A&E to have my grumbling left kidney looked at which lead to my (eventual) T2 diagnosis. They did a quick scan of my kidney with a mobile machine and confirmed I...

    Dry Skin

I've had dry skin on my hands for several months now; but in recent weeks it's getting worse. It is on my knuckles and the bottom of my fingers and in between the fingers. I've tried E45 cream and also bio oil, but neither seems to help. Any other suggestions, remedies or old wives tales for...

Diagnosing diabetes: are doctors being over-enthusiastic?

Why don't they do the Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) as a matter of course? If, as suggested, it's the only conclusive method of diagnosis then surely we should all have had one? :? I haven't had one, but from all my pre diagnosis ailments it's pretty obvious that I am T2. I'll ask the nurse...

BG Meters - which is best?

I've been using the Freestyle Freedom Lite for a few weeks now and I'm very impressed. Comes in a neat little zippable carry case, requires a minimum droplet of blood to get a reading and absolutely NO need to press ANY buttons. You simple insert the strip, the screen lights up, apply the...

    Unbelievable

Does she honestly think you can "catch" diabetes through intimate contact or that your offspring will be diabetic because you are??? What's the female equivalent of a plonker???

    Horizon. Pill poppers.

I'm certainly not feeling very lucky where my health is concerned Catherine. I'm convinced my T2 has gone undiagnosed for over a year and I've had a list of the the betes related illnesses - kidney trouble, eye trouble, neuoropathy, dry skin, sleep apnia, fatigue, etc, etc. I also have a very...

    Horizon. Pill poppers.

At the risk of getting on my soapbox here, I truly believe that the state of your health lies largely in your own hands. Yes, I fully accept that your genes do pre suppose you to certain conditions or traits; such as obesity; but, by keeping your body in balance and following the maxin...

Nuts - which ones are best for diabetics?

I've did a search on "nuts" within this forum before making this post. From previous posts I've gleaned that Macadamia, Walnuts and Pine nuts are good for us; but are there any more types of nuts that folks with betes are recommended to eat? Conversely, are there any types of nuts we should be...

    Horizon. Pill poppers.

Chapter 6 says it all for me: That's why I'm adamant to try and control T2 with diet only for as long as I possibly can. I fully accept that currently my body is out of balance but I'm determined to do everything within my power to correct that balance naturally, not with the aid of synthetic...

    Morrisons Soup

Agreed suffolkboi61. Our family have never eaten them, they ARE junk food. However, the supermarkets offer a fantastic range of fruit, veg, meats, cheeses, etc so you can eat the right foods and have all the convenience of 24 hour opening, etc.

    Morrisons Soup

Ken, No disrespect to you and other "DIYers" on here, but I suspect most of you are retired or housepersons. I'm not and I regularly work 12 hours a day and also work over the weekends too. Even if I was inclined to cook for myself, which I'm not, I'm so cream crackered when I get home that...

    Help.....I'm hungry

Thanks Ken. Altho' the carbs are ,as you say, highish in this particular one I prefer it as it has lots of other nice compliant ingredients blended in to take the dull blandness off the taste.

    Morrisons Soup

Hi cowboyjim, Yes, my wife buys those soups for me too. I take them to work with me for my lunch as they are quick and easy (3 mins in the microwave). The one I eat is the "winter vegatable". 8.7g of carbs per 100g of which 2.3 sugars. No disrespect to those of you saying "make your own"...
