    Help.....I'm hungry

Tesco does a nice houmous with lemon, chick peas, lentils and a few other "compliant" foods mixed in. Only 2% sugar per 100g too. :D

When does Fat Burning Kick in?

My experience with Atkins was very similar to yours betic. I found myself eating monotonous stuff, like peperami's and baby bel cheeses as snacks all the time. Bacon and eggs for breakfast with steak and salad or chicken and salad for dinner. It did become very dull and boring after a few...

    fish oils

I'll check with the nurse at my next assessment and she if she will write me a prescription for them too. Just so I'm clear, this isn't a drug it's a vitamin supplement?

Porridge - which is best for you?

Just taken a before lunch reading and I'm back down to 6.9 :D I never realised that something as simple and straightforward as a bowl of porridge could cause such a spike in the BG.

Porridge - which is best for you?

It looks like I will need to re think my breakfast choice. Took a reading when I first woke up at 8.8. Then had Scott's porridge oats and took another reading one hour after. That reading was 12.8

    Benfotiamine

Pills arrived today. I've started taking one a day and will report my results on the forum. I've had a stinking headache all day, I hope this is just a coincidence. :(

Porridge - which is best for you?

I haven't tested myself an hour or two after eating porridge to be honest. I will do tomorrow. Generally speaking my readings are coming down and are all now within 1 point above or below 7, which after only 3 weeks I'm more than happy with. Just started taking Benfotiamine today also so...

not happy :-( have to let off steam lol

Sounds like a bit of a postcode lottery. My DB nurse is excellent and gave me a free meter and wrote prescriptions out there and then for lancets, strips and even a bucket to put the used lancets into. I can understand your frustration completely.

    Went to 'Diabetes Education' today

I've started eating 3 or 4 digestive biscuits a day, every day this week and so far it isn't affecting my BG. In fact, my BG is still dropping steadily and I'm now at the 7 target my DN set me on diet only. Thing is, I'm still eating fairly normally. For example, just spent 3 nights in a...

    Q re Testing

Hi, I'm a newbie too so finding that there is lots to learn and lots to observe (trial and error). I see from your profile you are diet only, so am I. Your readings seem higher than mine; I was 16 when tested at A & E on 1st of January this year but by simply adjusting my diet and cutting out...

    Benfotiamine

Patch, According to one of your previous posts you ordered a bottle of these back in Aug 09. What results have you had with them? Using similar logic to your own (at this price it is worth a punt) I've just ordered the B complex variety. Cugila might tell me off for putting the link on here...

    Benfotiamine

Just waded my way right through this thread, including all the weblinks along the way. (NOTE TO SELF - you need to get out more) I have eye trouble, kidney problems and pain in my hands and feet. All the reports and testimonials on the various weblinks are positive, but some on...

I ate two apples earlier then tested myself. BG went from 6.9 to 8.8. A jump of almost 2 points.

Meter test strips - can they be re used?

Just tried to re use mine and the meter wouldn't let me. It just bleeped and an error message came up. I guess with the micro chip technology built into these strips the meter can tell when a strip has previously been used. I would imagine all of these meters would react in the same way.
