Eating low carbs but High readings

Hi, I have learnt through a low carb diet that when you eat protein only meals (no carbs) then you will still need to take insulin (I’m type 1). When you eat protein with no carbs some of the protein will turn to carbs it will take a lot longer so I have stopped having meals without carbs as I...

    Coconut Milk Spike

Did you have meat in your curry? If so the protein will raise your sugar level. If you don’t eat any carbs your body then converts the carbs of the protein, whereas if you have carbs and protein then the protein shouldn’t affect your sugar level. However given your sugar returned within range...

    I’m struggling

Hi @Nicola M Sorry to hear you’ve been having a rough time, but as most others have said it’s great your talking about it and actually I think it’s good to know that there are other people having the same issues as you, your not alone but we all deal with things differently. Great to hear ur...

    Libre sensor

Hi @himtoo I did look at getting these but my chemist didn’t have any When i went on line I found ‘Brava adhesive removal’, they sent me a can of spray for free as a sample, it’s big enough to last me a year I reckon, they also sent me some wipes, is worth a try.

Got my NHS prescription for Libre!

Hi @scott-Cthat is exactly what has happened to me, I was literally about to book an appointment to go have a chat with them and got a blanket letter saying they are looking into and a decision will not be made till April next year. Am gutted but to be fair didn’t expect anything more. I am...

    Libre sensor

Hi @Soapybubs87 As people have said showers etc are fine, the problem I have with mine is getting it off at the end of two weeks without taking a layer of skin off, I have now managed to get some free samples from companies that do adhesive removal wipes/sprays they work brilliantly. One...

Got my NHS prescription for Libre!

What is the strangest question you have been asked as a diabetic?

That is so wrong.... A colleague of mine recently told us her husband had been diagnosed with type 2, but she was really worried that it was going to get worse and then he would become type 1..... and his life would be over!! I felt great after that

    Struggling with consistent control

Hi all, so we’ve been talking about days where we can’t get our sugar down, we’ll yesterday I had a day where I couldn’t get my sugar up above 4, each meal I ate I didn’t take the full amount of insulin, I also realised half way through the day I hadn’t actually taken my background insulin!! I...

    Struggling with consistent control

Hi @becca59 & @Levy I have tried low carb and I think it does make a difference, by eating less it’s almost like ur body doesn’t stock pile it somehow so you are generally at a lower level. I used to do carb free meals but found it pointless as I would need to take insulin for the protein, so...

    Struggling with consistent control

Hi @Levy I completely agree with @Janet_rabbit about the harder you try the worse your readings seem to be. I like the you have experienced days when my sugars are off the chart and nothing I do changes them, there really doesn’t appear to be any reason for them! I think the most important think...

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

My latest one was 57/7.4 which is now classed as poor, however a month ago this would have been good!! However I am having way too many lows at moment so actually should be higher....

    Number of hypos a week

Thanks so much @Levy I do feel like the only person with diabetes sometimes, as I don’t know anyone else who injects, a group of people I have met all use pumps and although we have the same issues generally I’m not sure it’s exactly the same. With my libre I feel it’s the same my levels have...

    Number of hypos a week

Thanks for all your great messages, this last week has been so much better, for first 5 days only had 1 hypo, then low and behold Thursday had 3 in one day!!! @Juicyj I agree with you in you should know why your sugar goes down but that doesn’t always mean you can prepare for it, for instance...

    Number of hypos a week

Hi @novorapidboi26 Thanks for your message and sorry to have not replied sooner. I’m already on half measures for both my background and my fast acting. I have however just been given a new insulin Fiasp which means I don’t have to inject 30mins before I eat. Since starting on this I have...

    Number of hypos a week

That’s what I’m dreading, but also having a good HBa1c is pointless when you know it’s made up of low readings which are no better than high ones really. I hope things pick up and you get your symptoms back x

    Number of hypos a week

Hi I recently had my annual review and although my HBa1c was good, the additional comment made was that DAFNE’s guideline was not to have more than 2 hypos a week!!. I do not meet this criteria at all and am lucky to not have 2 hypos a day, I understand the reason I am having them as I am so...

    Insanely frustrated

Hi @Glucobabu I use Levemir and have done for the last 7 years, I split my dose as I don't need as much during the day as I do during the night (3.5/6u) there is no issue with overlap or if there is my dose allows for that, it also means if you have a really strenuous day you can adjust your...

how many people adjusts there night time insolin dependent on the next day?

I think what your doing is great and if Uve found your readings are still in target then anyone who tells you to do otherwise is crazy. I reduce my daytime dose if I run in the mornings otherwise I hypo all day. Good luck hope it continues to go well
