To go private for LADA blood tests?

Hi acacia My Dr would not give me the c-peptide test. He said it was pretty obvious I was still making some insulin, and that over time this would reduce, thus the test was not worthwhile.... Which I actually sort of agree with. Your mum is clearly producing some insulin, otherwise she would...

How low do you go................with carbohydrates.

Hi asyarik I was diagnosed just over a year ago. Just about everything I have learned has originated from this forum. Many of us on this form have found low carbing helps us keep our blood sugar levels under control. I started to low carb about 11 months ago, started to eat to my meter (testing...

To go private for LADA blood tests?

Phoenix is right, there seems to be no conclusive evidence..... Dr bernstein says:- "There are several hypotheses as to why conventional treatment won’t let the honeymoon go on forever, but my experience with patients indicates that with proper treatment it can. Essential to this is a...

To go private for LADA blood tests?

Your mum, being LADA, will probably get little change of medical advise from the NHS.... But very importantly, now being aT1, she will get testing strips prescribed in reasonable quantities. They will likely still advise on a healthy diet with 1/3 plateful of carbs. Many of us on the forum have...

Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

Interesting Hospital diabetic appointment today.... I thought it was with the nurse, but turned out to be dietician. A different one to last time. She looked up my notes including recent blood test health check and looked over my BG readings. She said that my excellent cholesterol level...

    Nightmare diabetes appointment

I think Dr Bernstein would strongly disagree. He says the tighter the control the less likely you are of having hypos....,but his control guideline is tight.... Very tight.

I don't follow. Surely an insulin pump stops hypos.... His BG level was under 2.0, but on an insulin pump.

    Any kayakers on here?

We have hired a couple of times. I have been watching this kayak on eBay, under £400 new. http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/121384559503?nav=WATCHING_ACTIVE&skus=colour:green%20dust&varId=420324752851

Its surprising how one can get used to something previously thought impossible. 12 months ago I too would have thought it to be unrealistic. Now, no big deal.

There is also I believe, one *very* important point to make about *normal* BG levels in us LADA's (this is the LADA forum).... Unique to us LADA's (I believe) are a few remaining insulin producing beta cells. We still produce insulin, at varying amounts, which lowers our injected insulin amount...

    Simple quick cheese sauce

It works with courgettes broccoli and cauliflower. Had this at lunch today, with some slices of aubergine added as well.... But I cooked (steamed) the broccoli and cauliflofer first and fried the aubergine and courgettes before adding the cooked broccoli and cauliflower and the cream and cheese...

He quotes that his target is 4.6 pre breakfast, compared to his and Jenny Ruhl belief (through a continuous glucose monitoring system) that a non diabetic norm is 4.0. Jenny Ruhl's book shows an interesting graph of 'totally normal' BG levels in non diabetics, it shows a flat line of 4.0 through...

    FREESTYLE LIBRE ON SALE!!!!

Christmas market stalls at Brugges in Belgium were also selling red wine. I had one of my lowest pre dinner BG readings after strolling around the Xmas market there one afternoon with a few plastic glasses of red wine.

Interesting.... It does not seem to mention if there is any link between high and low hba1c's. Could it be that a T1 with a high hba1c, has many hypos, thus maybe it is not the hypos but the high hba1c? Indeed a question.....Do tight controlled T1s have more or less hypos than uncontrolled?

Hi Phoenix. No I didn't see the c4 dococumentry, sounds interesting, I will look out for a repeat showing. I think 7% is good target with people who are at 9%. But in my short time educating myself on diabetic treatment, it seems to me that the key to a good, healthy life lies with normal BG...

    Nightmare diabetes appointment

Dr Bernstein does. T1 at 12, one of, if not the, unhealthiest pupils through school, given 5years to live in his 30s. At a 50 year school reunion realised that he was one of the healthiest attending.... All through, he says, to having normal (4.6 fasting and 5.6 2hrs after eating) BG levels. Now...

Exactly. There is no doubt in my mind that low (normal) BG levels reverse many complications and help avoid future complications. There are a number of diabetics in their 30s who have been on deaths door with a very short life expectancy who have turned their health around, and lived into their...

Spent some time browsing.... But could not find "between 6.5% and 7% are statistically insignificant"...... Probably to technical for me to find it..... I did find a reference to only 10 patients reaching the target hba1c. It would be good to see any other trials that compare hba1c levels to...

Any chance of providing a link to this. I have googled it and can not find any reference to this.....according to Wikipedia:- "The authors of the study featured the benefits of close control — clearly reduced eye, kidney, and nerve damage — in their conclusion. This supports the clinical value...

Not sure that 3.8 on a meter should necessarily be seen as a low. With a 15% allowable inaccuracy a 3.8 reading could be 4.4.... But it could be 3.2!!!!.... So best to do another another test. One of my 3.8s was at 3:00am. I don't often check my BG in the middle of the night. It was very low...
