A newly diagnosed review of the forum

I wonder how other 'new' forum users rate this forum? My experience; 5 out of 5,:- Diagnosed T2 sep13, then T1 /LADA /T1.5 in dec13. Not sure when I first started reading forum posts, but subscribed 1-Jan-14 Nearly everything I have learned about diabetes has originated from this forum...

    Cake Rota!

Tesco £1.50 for a large 500ml jar. I think only the large 24hr Tesco stock them. I bought 5 jars last week, week before I bought 2 jars from Holland Barrett for around £25!!

So here's a heart attack for all the good LADAs....

Hi Elaine Are you still low carbing? Or have you increase your carbs?.... Could this be why your insulin is higher that expected?... Just wondering. Good to hear you seem to be settling into the insulin routine.

LCHF diet to help you lose weight, not diabetes

In my opinion, THE most important advice to be given to any newcomer with high blood sugars is to get a meter and then eat to your Meter. I am now on a LcHf diet (probably better defined as very low carb very high fat). I have not got to the LcHf intentionally, or because many forum members...

    Honeymooners!?

My MBC or bulletproof coffee consists of 30g butter and 30g coconut oil, blended in a cup of filter coffee. Tastes nice, creamy. Lots of calories...... I am 6'-2" and struggle to get sufficient calories without overdoing the protein (and carbs)..... So this helps, without it I would loose...

    High fat... Improved cholesterol

Honeymoon period still going strong, and for some reason this week I have seen the lowest pre breakfast BG readings ever, average this week below Dr Bernstein's 4.6.... Will they stay low.... Time will tell!!

    High fat... Improved cholesterol

My GP did not say..... It was a phone call conversation...... And I don't know enough about cholesterol to ask about that kind of detail.....he originally just said my cholesterol was fine, nothing to worry about, I asked how it compared to last time..... Which is when he said my good...

Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

My cholesterol levels have improved on a year ago. My GP said they were good a year ago, but better now. A year ago (on diagnosis) my diet was a 'healthy!' low fat probably high carb diet, now it is low carb very high fat! Pleasantly surprised by this weeks pre breakfast BG levels, my average...

    High fat... Improved cholesterol

My latest cholesterol test shows that my HDL level is great and that my ratio has improved on my last cholesterol test, which sort of is amazing since my last test was done around a year ago shortly after my diabetic diagnosis when I was on a 'very healthy' low fat diet (but unintentionally...

    Honeymooners!?

I am sure it will, but fear it maybe years away. Changes move slowly in the NHS.

    Supermarket Low carb coleslaw

Correction. Tesco everyday value coleslaw is 25p per carton.

    Honeymooners!?

I agree, Exactly what I have found. NHS policy says you must have carbs, but most staff know otherwise. I saw the diabetic dietician a couple of weeks ago, she wanted to know what I was eating.... Bacon, eggs, fatty meats, pot of double cream per day, lots of butter and lots of salad and a...

    Supermarket Low carb coleslaw

Tesco everyday value coleslaw contains just 3.5g /100g of carbs, at around 40p per carton. Most supermarket coleslaws are around 6g carb, with many even more, costing over a pound. Anyone found a supermarket coleslaw with less than 3.5g carbs? Strange, I never really liked coleslaw before...

    Honeymooners!?

Dr bernstein has written a few books on diabetes, the one I have read is called diabetes solution. You can download it on kindle or iTunes for around £5.00. A very good read. Dr Bernstein is a world-renowned advocate for diabetes care. Now 80, he developed type 1 diabetes when he was just 12...

    Honeymooners!?

I was diagnosed a year ago as T2, then 10 months ago T1 LADA, but my hospital notes say T1 honeymoon period. 10 months ago my diabetic consultant said I would be on insulin with weeks, but through low carb high fat diet I am still insulin and medication free. Now following Dr Bernstein's...

    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

I think you maybe right.... His targets are 4.6 fasting and 5.6 2hrs after meals, I don't think these levels would give a Hba1c in the 4s. But the author (Ryan attar) clearly states that both his and Dr Bs hba1c are in the 4s.... Must be an error in his conversion to mmol/l

    Diet to put weight on....

Dwelldon Have you looked into the possibility that you might be LADA / T1.5. I was originally diagnosed T2, but loosing weight. I asked for a GAD test, this will define whether you are T2 or T1. Have a read / look up LADA, and see whether you fit the symptoms.

    Diet to put weight on....

I had the same problem (loosing weight). I increased my meat and fish intake, eg mixed grill (with salad not chips) when eating out and eat loads of nuts, this worked (I put on a stone+ in 6 weeks but the increase in protein caused my bg levels to rise a little, I have since cut back a little on...

    Bread choices

I have stored them in the fridge overnight in a sealed plastic container, but with only 6 slices, they don't last long, my wife loves them, often in preference to normal bread. I eat 4 at a time. I have prorated ingredients to make 8 slices. Can't see why you can't freeze them, but not tried.
