    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

Hi Lucy What a great article, amazing. Extradinary that someone with an hba1c of 5.4% enrols with Dr bernstein to further reduce their BG levels. I had not realy realised that Dr Bernstein recommends a hba1c in the 4s. That seems impossible. Especially if you are on insulin and a driver in the...

    Me?

Hi emmotha Sounds very much like you could be LADA. My diabetic consultant said I was LADA 10months ago, but their is no mention of LADA in my hospital notes. My hospital notes say I am type 1 in the honeymoon period. You could ask for a C peptide to be done, this is a marker of the amount of...

    LADAs preserving their beta cells

Hi Lucy That's disappointing, after working so hard to get your BG levels down. Do you ever get lows? If you are never go below 5 then I guess you should be upping the insulin. I do find snacking increases BG levels, I am lucky in that I now never get hungry between meals, I 'bulk' up with...

Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

Hi bill, How do you make a coconut cream shake? What are the ingredients? Sounds nice / good calories (for us wanting to put weight on)

Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

I am much the same .... Would like to get back to 85kg...... Try bullet proof coffee.... Around 500 calories...30g butter + 30g coconut oil rigorously mixed in with cup filter coffee. Nice taste, little protein and no carbs !!! If you can't mix rigorously then I add some double cream.

Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

I think Bernstein might well approve....He recommends eating a slice of bread or a blueberry muffin (13g? before shopping (walking) the malls for 3 hours..... Indeed I think he would approve anything that works for you, in keeping your BG levels at his advised levels.

Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

Dental hygienist today said my gums are now excellent, lovely healthy colour, no bleeding..... So much different from a year ago.... Whilst her advise on how to clean has obviously made a difference, I think THE main reason they are healthy is because my blood glucose levels are 'normal'...

Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

Whilst waiting in the hospital diabetic clinic and browsing the diabetic uk magazine I read an advert for a night time hypo alarm. It cost around £70 and looked like a wrist watch. No idea how good it is, but maybe worth considering.... Hopefully someone here has one already and can advise how...

Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

Now 12 weeks into Dr Bernsrptein diet / low BG solution plan, and over a year since being diagnosed. My BG levels are not quite as good as they were during the 1st four weeks of the Bernsein plan, but still good, considering I am not taking any insulin or meds. My pre breakfast average over...

    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

It's strange how we all differ slightly.... But only slightly.

    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

I can very much relate to this... Except the whey protein powder, which I have not tried. I don't count calories every day, but occasionally I do a detailed analysis and I am around 2,500. When I know I have a low calorie day (and LcHf) I know I will have lower BG levels.... But if I do this...

    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

If I can keep my fastings at 5.0 I will be very happy..... That's my aim.

    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

My pre-breakfast numbers are, very sadly, gradually increasing, when I first started Bernstein 3 months ago they were around 4.5, now they around 5.0..... Which was my original target.... But when I look at my 3 month pre breakfast graph, I can see that they are are, very gradually increasing...

    Dr. Bernstein carbs. A shock

I am following dr Bernstein. I thought he allowed 2 cups salad!... And 1 cherry tomato.... Definitely low carb, mod protein..... But more importantly I think, is to eat to your meter... If a few tomatoes has little effect, then ok, if not you have to limit them..... I was low carb before...

    Official TAG link?

I have been wondering lately how, when on insulin, you detect protein and exercise. I wonder because my experience (without taking insulin) is that high protein increases my BG levels by around 0.5mmol/l and exercise will reduce my BG levels by 0.5 mmol/l, this give or take 0.25mmol/l depending...

    Official TAG link?

An interesting thread.... I have never detected any BG increase after I have a bulletproof coffee in the morning (20g butter 20g coconut oil). I do detect BG rise after a large protein meal. My observation indicates a zero increase for fat, and an increase in BG levels only after eating a...

To go private for LADA blood tests?

Hi acacia Sounds very much like your mum could be LADA. It would be worth pushing for a GAD test with her GP first. Explaining your reasons why you think she is LADA. But a low carb diet is good either way, as it helps keep blood sugar levels low But probably more importantly is getting weight...

So here's a heart attack for all the good LADAs....

Hi Elaine, Thing have changed since feb this year when you said:- 'The last week or so my morning fasting levels have risen from 7-8mmol to 9-10mmol and my post prandials have risen from 6-8mmol to 8-10mmol.... I fear more cells have now been killed and maybe it is time to have the "chat" with...
