    Alzheimer's connection

When you start looking / searching the web there are loads more diseases that can be linked with highish blood sugars..... Cancer, heart attacks etc. When you look at jenny Ruhl's 'normal' blood sugar levels chart it shows a peak of 6.8 around 1 to 2 hrs after a meal, then down to 4.4 within...

    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

Hi Lucy The article / trial on T1s continuing to produce insulin is very interesting. Even more reason for us to keep BG levels low, so we can preserve for longer.

    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

Runner, Dr Bernstein States that 'beta cells can recover if they are given a rest with the help of injected insulin'.... and BG levels are normalised. Dr Bernstein also states that he has seen patients 'honeymoon' period go on for ever...... With normalised BG levels. You have 'normalised'...

    Pain in feet

I was diagnosed a year ago, 9months ago my specialist nurse did some tests and found I had lost any feeling in my right big toe. I was also getting cold feet very often, which I had never had before. Since I have managed to get my BG levels under control, I think my feeling in my toe has...

So here's a heart attack for all the good LADAs....

That's good. In the mean time, in my opinion, you need to prepare yourself so you can justify to them why YOU want to go on insulin. For example:- * You want to lower your BG levels to minimise long term diabetic related complications * you want to have another baby, so need lower BG levels to...

LCHF success stories from type 1's

My experience with low carb is that calories control my weight. I am T1.5 / LADA not on meds or insulin... I can still, just, produce sufficient insulin to support myself and I eat to my meter. I have been low carbing for a year now, starting 150g now down to 30g per day. 6 months ago my...

So here's a heart attack for all the good LADAs....

My understanding is ketones are dangerous with high BG levels (above 10), but good when low carbing with low BG levels. When your BG levels are above 10 you need to frequently check for ketones.

So here's a heart attack for all the good LADAs....

My experience with the NHS is that the dr's and dsn's will only give advise that complies with NHS policy. They will not and (understandably) can not give advice against NHS policy..... However, tell them what you want to do, and justify the reasons why (eg low carb, small dose insulin to get...

    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

Just read diet 101 book.... Interesting, but found it mainly applicable to T2's wanting to loose weight.... As a T1 /LADA not wanting to loose weight, I found Dr Bernstein's much more relevant..... But both heavily agree on 'normal' blood sugars being very important, normal being much lower than...

    Testing strips when LADA

After a phone conversation with my GP, he has agreed to keep the test strips on prescription.... I explained to him that without the test strips I would be on insulin and need far more test strips than 3 per day (testing before / during driving etc.!!!!!... And therefore I was saving the NHS...

So here's a heart attack for all the good LADAs....

There is indeed some evidence that beta cells can regenerate.... But all the evidence I have seen points to low blood sugar levels being required. I can completely empathise with not wishing to take insulin..... But insulin is not a medication... We LADA / T1s can not make sufficient...

So here's a heart attack for all the good LADAs....

Hi Elaine, Good to see you back on the forum. In my opinion, you need to start taking insulin, and the sooner the better...... To be honest I think you must start taking it, there is so much evidence that high BG levels kill off beta cells (and you have high BG levels) and currently you are...

Is it easy or Harder to put on weight on LCHF

Hi irish maeve Cutting out all potatoes/bread/pasta etc is very good. To put on weight simply eat more fat and protein. Meat, fish, butter, double cream, full fat milk, hard cheese, mayonnaise. Aubergines If you have always been slim I wonder if you might be LADA (Early T1). The only way to...
