    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

Shame they are not on ipad / iTunes. We have a kindle somewhere, tend to use the ipad now for book reading. I agree, The website material is good, but presented in an old / cumbersome way.... It doesn't lend to easy reading, but good content.

    Testing strips when LADA

I eat by my meter. Whenever I have a different meal I always test. I always test 1st thing in the morning, this gives a long term guide to whether my BG levels are rising or falling. When they start to rise I test more through the day, changing what I eat to keep my BG levels low. My diabetic...

    Testing strips when LADA

I have been refused any more testing strips on the NHS, by our local pct diabetic nurse. Reason being, I am not on insulin and not on meds and have very good BG levels. I have been getting 100 per month. I use more than 100 but buy a top up from eBay occasionally. Anyone else had problems...

    LADAs preserving their beta cells

Hi Lucy Good to read your update. My initial thought is you need to take another unit of insulin at night... If you are in the 7s at night and wake up to upper 5s, then another unit must help.... That's my thinking. It's kind of strange that you feel Hungary a lot of the time, most, including...

    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

On 30g carb it gives me 68g protein and 214 fat and 2317 calories..... My protein intake is around 100g, fat around 250 and calories around 2600..... So I should be putting on weight, but not!! A few months back my calorie intake was around 3,000 and I was putting weight on, but my BG levels...

    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

It's surprising how few calories there are in a LcHf diet. I struggle to meet my calorie requirement, and I feel I am eating lots, i never really feel hungry, could easily miss a meal.... But know if I do I will loose weight, which I don't want to. So I will give the bulletproof coffee a go...

Submission on fats and carbs to Which? and Diabetes UK?

My 3 reasons for LcHf diet 1). To retain my few remaining insulin making beta cells (high BG kills beta cells) 2). To stop frequent visits to the toilet (I find anything over 5.5 means frequent urination) 3). Minimise long term associated diabetes complications.

    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

A very quick lookup and this is around 500 cal and 50g fat. I could delete my 2 x breakfast sausages and still be up on calories and fat, and reduce my protein, which I know is running high and not helping my BG levels.....I will give this a try.... I have been trying to introduce more coconut...

New to low carbs..tried & failed! Help!

In my opinion, you are not low carbing if eating potatoes and brown toast. These are an absolute no no's if LcHf dieting. Likewise any rice or pasta no matter what type / colour. Ian

New finding on possible cause of both Type 1 and Type 2

Very interesting. Are you going back on Metformin Lucy? My dr (9 months ago) advised me to stop taking it, but did say it would do no harm if I continued (unlike Gliclazide) which he said could do harm. I have also read that Metformin is good at stopping / helping liver dump, thus keeping BG...

    LADAs preserving their beta cells

Following dr Bernstein's solution, within days I was down to his 'normal' BG levels, but now, 6 weeks on, I am struggling to get below 5s pre breakfast

New to low carbs..tried & failed! Help!

Is this because you are juggling with less insulin requirements? I ask with no insulin knowledge, but have read that some T1's switching to low carb diets have gone from 30+ units down to 6units of insulin a day...... Going through this change must be very difficult regarding insulin amount...

Don't you find it hard to get fat without protein?.

    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

Just getting back to the protein recommendation of 0.8g per kg. Those of us on a LcHf diet would (must) surely need more as it is only from protein / fat that we get our energy. Without carbs (or at least very few) we would have less energy unless we have more protein..... It is also this aspect...

    Help! Sick when low-carb?

What about pork or lamb, or duck or 1/2 chicken. All these are higher fat lower protein than steak, so in a sense better for LcHf diet.

Is it easy or Harder to put on weight on LCHF

The only low carb sausages I have found are the most expensive eg Tesco finest. 97% meat 1g carb or gluten free 97% meat. All the cheap sausages are full of carbs. Yes, eating more meat is more expensive. Not tried protein shakes.

Is it easy or Harder to put on weight on LCHF

I found that it is not easy to put weight on, but I did, and I managed to put on over a stone by simply eating more meat, lots of nuts, cream, butter..... I think more meat was the main thing. I have since eased off eating lots of meat, and eat more of what I want to eat (rather than more to...

    Pesky dawn phenomenon

Exercise before bed works for me..... Always after exercising my BG is lower, And whatever my BG is at bedtime it is always around 0.5 higher in the morning..... So the lower it is at bedtime the lower it will be in the morning. What really puzzles / annoys me is that my BG is always higher 4...

Anti GAD Antibodies - high levels

My GAD test was over 2,000. This was done last November. I am still LADA, taking no insulin or meds. Keeping my BG levels averaging 4.6 pre breakfast and 5.6 2hr after meals through LcHf diet.
