What pen do you use? A pen with 1/2 units would be good to have.

    LADAs preserving their beta cells

But if you are LADA your beta cells are definitely dying fast with above normal blood sugars, and you will, without doubt have none remaining fairly quickly. Keep your blood sugar levels at normal levels (dr Bernstein says 4.6 pre breakfast and 5.6 2hrs after meals) and you have a good chance of...

    Nuts and blood sugar?

Should have added.... Dr Bernstein says be careful with nuts, a few ok, but not too many!.....

    Nuts and blood sugar?

I am not eating so many nuts (almonds) as I used to (before I was on the dr Bernstein diet). My BG levels are now lower, but likely more to do with cutting out fruit and cutting back on tomatoes etc. My feeling is, nuts are ok if you are on low protein levels, if you are already on high...

    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

That's my understanding to. I think dr Bernstein also says so in his book.

    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

I wonder if the 0.8 / kg protein amount is an NHS guideline.... The same guideline that says we should have 1/3 of our plate full of carbs!!!!

    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

I am eating much more than the recommended 0.8 /kg, nearly double. If I ate the recommended amount I would lose weight (as I was a few months back). I think you have to eat protein to your meter, but I found a reduction or increase in protein can take 3 days to show on my meter, so make any...

    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

I find it difficult to calculate protein. I have tried calculating it a couple of times (my fitness app said 97g, carb & calls said 127g - same meals!). I often eat out a lunch (main meal of the day), if I have a large mixed grill or a large steak or 1/2 chicken I find my BG levels rise (high...

    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

Also, I try not to have to much protein. 10g protein = 5g carbs. Which leads to lots of fat!!!! Butter cream, fatty cuts of meat... All the 'bad' foods that I have been bought up with over the last 30 years, but now beginning to appear not so unhealthy.... Even healthy!!!!

    Managing the Bernstein eating plan

I am more like 12-12-6 (with my breakfast 4-8 (nut-seed snack then 2x 1g carb sausages , bacon, 2egg courgette and tom omelet with cheese) I have tried a near zero carb dinner (mushrooms fried in butter with cream) but it seemed to make no difference to my pre breakfast BG reading so now have a...

    Newbie question

Wow. What a difference in insulin amount and your much lower BG levels. Well done. Can't advise on insulin use, but hopefully someone else here can. Diagnosed T2 in sept 2013, BS levels 20+. BMI 22, age 59. Then diagnosed T1 / LADA in December. On a LcHf diet taking no insulin or medication...

    Yikes!

The more you read the more you learn, keep up the reading.... I think you may well also find that your consultants advice of 'eat normal' is against many learned diabetics advise (LcHf diet is often found to be best) but in my opinion you need to establish / convince yourself that this is best...

    Pesky dawn phenomenon

I Still have a double breakfast, but no longer fruit. I have a mix of flaked almonds, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds pine nuts with double cream or Greek yoghurt, as soon as I get up, this definitely works for me as 1hr later my BG are around the same as pre breakfast.... Then I have sausage bacon...

    Yikes!

Hi drummer mum I wonder if you are LADA (T1 in the honeymoon period). If so Gliclazide may do you more harm than good according to many dr's. I think you may find Dr burnstiens diabetic solution book a very interesting read. You can download it for £5 on iBooks / amazon. Dr Bernstein was...

Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

Now 4 weeks into dr Bernstein's solution. Wow... It seems to be working better than I thought. 1st wk looked promising, then caught a sickness bug (kids party!) which sent my BG readings up, but last 2 weeks of BG readings are very pleasing with pre breakfast average of 4.4 and 2hr after...

    LADAs preserving their beta cells

Low Blood sugar levels are key to healthy beta cells (according to dr Bernstein these are 4.6 pre breakfast and 5.6 2hrs after eating). Insulin will be required to get to these levels if your beta cells have already taken a heavy hit. With patients having some healthy beta cells remaining dr...

BS suddenly all over the place

I guess maybe you need to increase your insulin.... Maybe 1 unit of fast acting evening time, if your BG readings are high..... But hopefully someone with more insulin experience can advise better. Diagnosed T2 in sept 2013, BS levels 20+. BMI 22, age 59. Then diagnosed T1 / LADA in...

Ideas for portable LC snacks (unrefridgerated)

Pepperoni Almonds Diagnosed T2 in sept 2013, BS levels 20+. BMI 22, age 59. Then diagnosed T1 / LADA in December. On a LcHf diet taking no insulin or medication, and striving to keep my BS readings to dr Bernstein's recommended 4.6 pre breakfast and 5.6 2hr after eating in order to keep as...

Can I prove the Dr's wrong?

Hi Lucy I think the Jenny Ruhl's page you put a link to is what initially prompted me to get my BG levels down to 7.8 within an hour of eating (my 1st post on this thread back in February) that and a few other web pages I found. I took copies to the diabetic clinic. They said none were real...

    Confused type 1

Protein increases my BG levels, but very slowly. I sometime think I have a protein storage bag, when it is full my BG slowly rise, sometimes over 3 days. I now assume 10g protein = 5g carbs, but absorbed much slower. I can eat a low carb highish protein meal for breakfast and lunch then have...
