What's the worst experience you have experienced with type 1???

In 11 years of being diabetic I was very lucky and had no issues, no hospitalisations, until very recently. In the space of two weeks I had a severe night time hypo (fitting, unconsciousness, needing IV glucose to wake me) and a very nasty case of DKA requiring three days of sliding scale...

    If only!

Wouldn't it be amazing to be able to go to bed without worrying if you've done your night time insulin and without checking your BG, and then determining whether you can sleep or if you have to eat!? Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

Which results in more hospitalisations: severe hypos or severe hypers (DKA)?

They are both dangerous but in my opinion DKA Is worse. I had a severe night time hypo (fitting, unconscious for 20 mins) and the paramedics took me in and then sent me home 3 hours later. They told me that if I had been alone, most likely my liver would have produced glucose and woken me up. 3...

Advice on drinking alcohol safely with type 1 diabetes??

Make sure you end the night with a kebab and pitta lol!!! Alcohol drops your blood sugar and the carbs will help you keep stable throughout the night... I once had a nasty hypo after I had been drinking; level of 2.1 and I was still half cut and half asleep and it took me a good few minutes to...

Dafne course, what is it about?

DAFNE was the best thing I have done in my diabetic life! I learnt so much, not just carb counting but things related to alcohol, sick day rules etc and it was also great to meet other diabetics who showed you that you weren't alone. We also covered pregnancy and exercise and it was deffo a week...

So I went to a bar yesterday and asked for a vodka and diet coke. The lady behind the bar gave me a vodka and normal coke and I could immediately taste the difference! She swore blind that it was diet coke (it wasn't) and when I told her I needed diet as I am a type 1 diabetic she said to me...
