    Blood Sugar this evening..

Two hours post an evening meal of a hash made of tomatoes. peas, mushrooms, onion, plus 30g (raw) of bulghur wheat and soya protein chunks and my BGs were 9.1 mmol - not the greatest reading I've ever had, especially as after eating half my meal I was full, but a big improvement on the 14.1...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Yes I'm seeing the doc on the 18th and will be hopefully taking some improved BG readings. In addition I lost 5lb this week and if I can add another 3 by the 18th it will hopefully go in my favour. I'm Jewish and as some may know it's Hannukah and I've been sooooo good and refrained from...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Fasting sugar today remains high at 9.6 mmol but I've only been back on track for a week so it's still early days. 7 days ago it was 14.2 so I'm showing improvement AND I lost 5lbs this week too. All promising signs so watch this space.

How much weight have YOU lost?

Only the first week of the diet but I'm off to a cracking start - a loss of 5lbs. Still a long way to go as I'm now 16st 1lb and could do with losing about 2 more stone - but I've done it before.

    Coffee shops and blood testing

I lived in Portugal (pre-diagnosis) and soon adopted the cafe culture out there. Since returning I've continued it and, without thinking, assumed that as I never used sugar in my espresso that there was no problem. With the knowledge I've gained today I intend to try and isolate if it does...

    Coffee shops and blood testing

All good points - and thank you. I confess your point about not using toilets to finger prick resonated strongly. Ever since being diagnosed I've felt uncomfortable about completing a medical procedure in an area riddled with germs. It makes such obvious sense to discretely test at the table -...

    Coffee shops and blood testing

Now for some this may seem a bizarre post. However I felt I should share my experience. Today I went out with my wife to enjoy my regular Sunday double espresso. Whilst out I noticed it was two hours post breakfast and needed to pin prick to test my bloods as I had enjoyed a new food with my...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Well, this morning'fasting BG was a lousy 14.2! Very disturbing and only made worse that apparently my last Hba1c has spiked. I confess these last few months I've rather fallen off the wagon and these results only confirm my stupidity. Well, a new day and new beginning. A few years ago I had...

    Cheapest monitoring device?

I'm still using my SD Codefree - it's a few years old now but still reliable. I guess it's probably not as accurate as some of the more recent models but it's pretty reliable - and above all, it's cheap to run.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

7.0 this am. Not sure why my fasting BGs are always so high. Two years ago they were always in the mid-5s. [emoji19]

@Goonergal love the duck. Can you identify it? Yup, as @Goonergal said, it is an Egyptian goose

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Grr .. this morning started with a disappointing 6.8. I seem to be struggling to keep low in the mornings ATM. Hopefully this will improve.

    Welcome to the Vegetarian/Vegan Forum

Hi @JenniferW ... I confess I've never tried banana blossom but it does sound very exotic. At home we tend to stick to a lot of staples (beans & pulses). We do make our own tofu as it is markedly better than anything shop bought. Stir fried are always good but over the past few months we have...

do you have a hobby ?

Well if it's identical to mine then it's a shoveler not a mallard. [emoji846] It's been a long time since I've been to Slimbridge and next weekend we were due to be going on a birding holiday to Minsmere with a call in on the way. Looks like CV has scuppered that happening. Still on the plus...

    Welcome to the Vegetarian/Vegan Forum

Ooh! I am going to have to have a try of that!! It sounds lovely. My wife and I are quite big on seitan and one of our favourite recipes is this one. 10 medium mushrooms 1/4 cups vital wheat gluten 1/2 cup rolled oats 1/4 cup nutritional yeast 1 teaspoon dried thyme 1 teaspoon rubbed sage 1/2...

do you have a hobby ?

Mine is birding. I'm still hoping to get out a bit as the reserve I visit is hardly known by the locals so I have perfect solitude [emoji846]

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

This morning mine was a slightly healthier 6.0. Not quite what I used to be a couple of years ago but getting better now I am back on track. My "relapse" into a few old ways us a perfect example of how my body simply doesn't handle carbs well. Well that's history now and it's good to be back...
