    Wrong Diagnosis?

This is not correct. A positive antibody test means you are definitely type 1. But a negative antibody test doesn't mean you aren't type 1. About 25% of type 1s are antibody negative. Either because we haven't identified the antibodies that they have yet, or because the longer you wait between...

    Newly diagnosed as diabetic patient

Wel that would make you not type 1 as type 1 diabetes is treated with insulin or death. Hba1c = glycated haemoglobin. It's a 3 month average of your blood sugar control. Low carb = a low carbohydrate diet. Does diabetes affect your leg? Depends on whether you have diabetic complications like...

Waiting on diagnosis - feeling scared

@vanillapie i think you are getting rather ahead of yourself in self diagnosing diabetes based upon a few readings at 8.8 or 10.8. The World Health Orgsnisation diagnostic criteria for diabetes require random blood sugar to be over 11.1 to raise concerns about diabetes. This would the be...

    Pre-diabetes or not?

Your blood sugar readings don't suggest diabetes or pre diabetes. If youre concerned, ask your GP for a hba1c test.

Testing my blood at home AFTER an official test?

Have you actually been diagnosed with pre diabetes? Because a hba1 of 5% isn't prediabetic. High random blood sugars which you know are caused by the stress of the blood test don't suggest there's anything wrong with you. There isn't anything to prescribe or do for this. If you aren't have...

    Auto immune

Once you have one autoimmune disease you are more at risk of developing others. Your body has form for killing off perfectly healthy bits of itself. This is possibly something to do with your gut microbiome. The bacteria in your gut give out proteins which teach your body what is a foreign...

So cunfused about levels! Please help

A random blood glucose (ie not a fasting one) needs to be over 11.1 to raise concerns about diabetes. All of your sons readings are miles under that and completely normal. He doesn't have diabetes. Hopefully the tests at hospital will lead to a diagnosis and resolution for you.

    Exercise and Levemir

That's nice. What exactly was your motivation for posting this in the type 1 sub forum? It's an incredibly inappropriate post for the forum and terribly insensitive for this thread.

Let’s talk about MODY: Detailed genetic question here!

@Midori2018 doyou actually have a strong family history of diabetes? Assuming you have genetic diabetes without your parents/aunts/uncles/brothers/sisters also having diabetes seems rather a long shot.

    Exercise and Levemir

Levemir is nice and reactive to dose adjustments. So on days when you aren't working out you can take your standard levemir dose as normal. On days when you are working out you can reduce your levemir dose to avoid hypos during and after exercise. So you might take a couple of units less, or...

    Pumps - questions

Your profile says you have type 2 diabetes. If that's not correct you might want to update your profile with the correct information. Having a pump doesn't mean you don't need to carry round a needle, you need the back up of a spare cannula or a pen set in case the pump fails. Pumps can...

New ketone strips - don’t go pink or purple.

Trace. Why are you testing your non diabetic daughters ketones? Presumably you've not been advised by a doctor to test ketones, or they would have prescribed ketone testing strips. Trace ketones is normal in someone who has not been eating well, who has not been eating carbs or who has been sick.

"Newly" diagnosed and also have high Ferritin.

@callieuk have you had any other blood tests run? A FBP? A liver function test? Were they normal or have any results outside of the reference ranges? If you are concerned about possible haemachromatosis those would be the tests to ask for to help rule it out.

    Strange hypos

Have you basal tested? Here's a guide on how to do it - https://mysugr.com/basal-rate-testing/ - the units are mg/dL so divide be 18 to get mmol/l. Anti GAD and C-Peptide Tests Inconclusive

At 18 your immune system is going to be more efficient at killing off the beta cells than someone diagnosed in their 40s where they might be called LADA or 1.5 because then the honeymoon period can be long and occasionally strong enough to come of insulin all together for a short period. Was the...

Anti GAD and C-Peptide Tests Inconclusive

@LenCabe your GAD results were positive. You definitely have autoimmune type 1 diabetes. Your c-peptide tests were positive because you are honeymooning. The autoimmune kill off of the insulin producing beta cells isn't like flicking a switch, it takes time and in an older person in can take...

Type 1 First post. Need Advice - HbA1c?

You need CBT to deal with the needle phobia. It is just an irrational fear, the injections don't actually hurt, thers nothing to be scared of, but your mind is telling you there is - you need to find a way to turn off that voice in your mind. Other therapies worth exploring might be...
