    Hey, congrats!

That's a really strong point, @AlisonCampbell (my tagging function is currently broken!)- no-one is obliged to remain here. But, for me, the advice isn't the most powerful thing. The support and personal stories and the blogs and the cameraderie are all wonderful, but the "Eureka!" moment for...

Seriously... these animals. They'll never get good jobs in the future if they're not prepared to apply themselves right now. Read once (no idea where, sorry), that if we fed our domesticated animals - especially dogs - what they'd typically eat in the wild, they'd "love" us less. Food is a...

It is a personal choice (or challenge!) and that's as it should be. But people can't make good, informed choices without good, trustworthy information to base them on. Pollution, plastics, organic farming, heavy metals in fish... they've all received extensive media coverage which has led to...

    A Modern Paleo Diet?

From the BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-40686373 A story about the last (known) hunter-gatherer tribe in the world, the Hazda who hunt and forage on the same Northern Tanzanian land as their ancient ancestors. Try not to give a cynical guffaw when you see which company has their...

It's an interesting perspective, @Winnie53 , and I'm grateful for your reply. I, too, spent the last 5 years volunteering in a non-profit (though, luckily, fundraising was but a fraction of our time - annual monitoring was a far bigger bugbear) and the thing I learned from the people we worked...

Oh, it's even better... From this page: https://www.nutrition.org.uk/aboutbnf/whoweare/funding.html Literally almost one half of the BNF's income stream (2013 - 14) and by far their biggest source of income was "Donations from Corporate Members". These companies aren't stupid. They're...

But the Eatwell Plate isn't an NHS creation, but (as explored on another thread which I can't currently remember, but suspect it culd have been one of mine) instead is monitored and updated by The British Nutrition Foundation: https://www.nutrition.org.uk/healthyliving/healthydiet/eatwell.html...

Carbohydrates. It's literally a global conspiracy. This video is fascinating and horrifying at the same time - he's not saying anything new, he's just explaining the science to what has been known for decades. Decades. These big food companies that hold our "healthy eating" institutions for...

    Newly diagnosed 6yr old

Hi @Weeheather , welcome to the forum and much love to you during this difficult time. While I don't (yet) parent a child with diabetes, I've worked with families with hospitalised children - often renal and cancer patients - who had the same fear development that your son has described. At...

Well, you all made me cry, you buggers! There's a truism my (wonderful) boss/friend Caroline would trot out whenever I returned, glum, from another doctor's appointment and reported that I just had to lose some weight and, apparently, all would be well. "If losing weight was that easy, we'd all...

Thank you, @nebraska_beauty - your post meant a lot to me <3 But that really is the problem, isn't it? 8 minute appointment times and none of us have lives where our problems tidily compartmentalise themselves. My back, my weight, my (awful) periods, my duties as a carer, from time to time my...

Carpets and computers are procurement, not commissioning. Commissioning is a separate process and money stream and will never be used to pay for carpets and computers. Procurement is pretty much a fixed annual sum that gets moved around a locality year on year - it must just have been that...

I'd like to add a post-script to everything I said here. It's been more than 4 weeks since I went for an investigative X-ray that would, hopefully, reveal why I'm losing mobility so quickly. We're not talking "I can't be bothered" to walk, but that I actually can't at all. Since that X-ray...

Which is almost enough to have me seguing into non-taxable Non-Dom status and then into Kensington and then onto Grenfell. It's all a big mess, really. Honestly, though, nurses and teachers. Two of the hardest, most demanding jobs and two of the least rewarded and most taken for granted. I...

The NHS is a complicated beast actually made up of lots of different pieces, and that seems to reflect my feelings on it. I've worked with local health commissioners in my CCG (replaced PCTs) and have to say that every single one of them was absolutely dedicated to improving outcomes for the...

    Can't sleep !

The Surge! Ain't it crazy? Don't you wish it happened at 12pm instead? I play mindless games and let my brain unwind a little. I'm not consciously thinking about anything while I play them, I just let my mind drift wherever it wants and chill out. Eventually I come down a bit and then I can...

    Amazing

HEya @sheepie123 - I@m still learning, but my takeaway from the "Hypo?" thread was not that hypos are impossible but that false hypos (when your BG drops below a level you're comfortable with, but possibly not below 4) are more likely. This I agree with entirely, though: ... and still get hypos!
