    Amazing

I feel incredibly lucky with my DN. While she's still very NHS-by-the-bookish, she's willing to be persuaded and recognises that patient choice trumps her advice any time of the day. She's very sensibly decided it's probably better to work with me and understand what I'm doing so she can help if...

Feel as though I am a total failure

This is brilliant - well done you! I especially love that you talked it over (honestly) with your partner and daughter: now they know what you're going through, they'll be able to support you. You're literally not alone in this now - it can only get better. A couple of years ago, I may have...

    Helpful hint for blood testing.

I knew you'd be a sucker for threatened social exclusion, @Snapsy Now, about the hazing induction ritual...

This is why we can't be friends, Snapsy. Promoting negative stereotypes about the savagery of the FS gang. I can assure you, we only use the blood to mark our cheeks in traditional war patterns handed down by generations. Our linens and clothes are completely unstained.

    Hot weather

BTW, does anyone have the link to the hot weather vs diabetes advice? I seem to be coping particularly poorly this year: I'm still awake at 5am - only now is the house feeling cool enough to sleep, and I've given up trying to sleep upstairs all together because it roasts like an oven, despite...

    Hot weather

I'm loathing the heat. Especially in the evenings. How can it possibly still be 24c at 9pm? Ugh... I used to thrive in the heat - how I took those days for granted!

Feel as though I am a total failure

Hey there, @Geminigirl - and welcome back. Firstly, that you came back shows you've still got some fight in you. Your situation isn't your fault - look at what you've had to deal with on top of managing your illness: You're frightened, you're disillusioned, you're helpless, you're blaming...

    Helpful hint for blood testing.

Cheeky but funny! Seems the forum is divided into two main camps; the savage Finger Suckers and the more refined Tissue Dabbers. Of course there's the outliers too, Trouser Wipers and... nope. Can't repeat what happens to the used strips in Scott C"s house [emoji13]

    Diabetic 1 abroad help....

Sorry for the double post - I wanted to get that link to you as fast as possible. This forum has a Hypo Awareness Program which will definitely arm you with information that you can use in the future: http://hypoglycemia.uk/#/ I'm very new to diabetes and I don't have Type 1, so I can't give...

    Diabetic 1 abroad help....

Heya @HarrogateDave (welcome to the forum) You're not alone, but you do have to act fast. She should have something made of sugar in her testing kit or easily to hand. Click the following link, have a quick read, and then find the sugary stuff: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/how-to/treat-a-hypo.html

    Fed up :(

Hi @SPAM29 and welcome to the forum. And, please, accept some e-love and hugs <3 Stress is just the worst, and we parents tend to internalise - normalise - carry on, which ultimately does us no good at all. We reach a point where no amount of meditation and calm, deep breaths will make an ounce...

    The pump users' handbook (giggles)

Nice find! "Herbert Addison" Every male inventor should be called "Herbert" (just as every mechanic should be called "Dave").

    Interpreting Numbers

Thank you. And, of course, I have been looking at this in isolation - I haven't looked into what (if any) effect the mad dose of Vit D I'm on will have, nor the impact of sustained (14 months+ solving daily problems) stress will have. I've written a note on a stick and put it on my computer...

    Carb and fasting

Hi @Flair Your HbA1c is healthy and normal - you do not have insulin resistance; your body is moving, accessing and using sugar appropriately. Your BG of 5 also indicates that you are completely fine and not experiencing insulin resistance. I'm still unclear on what you tried for a year...
