    Sugar Tax??

If anyone should be punished and/or taxed for excessive sugar or carbs it should be the manufacturers. The consumer should not have to take the rap for the manufacturers disregard for health. They possibly have financial benefits for adding them into the food such as longer shelf life. Put the...

    How nice is cauliflower rice...

I would have to agree with you. Cauliflower rice is just such a fuss to make. Grated cauliflower even just blanched must lose a lot of its nutrients. I like cauliflower as it is and can eat curry without rice.

    Feel a failure

http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/dont-involve-yourself-in-the-blame-game.21894/ Have a read of this thread and the articles linked. Yes, it is a shock at first but only you can take control of it. I strongly recommend that you do. I was following a low carb high fat diet before my...

    A Re-introduction!

So, to continue this, my sleep pattern is a bit awry and I did not measure my BS. I did this morning at 6am and it was 6.6, considering there were Jelly Bunnies on my bed, I thought it was not too bad. (I know Jelly Bunnies ON your bed doesn't put your BS up but the wee devils sometimes hop...

    A Re-introduction!

Thank you. Luckily the soup was acceptable but they think vegetarians live on pasta. Again like you, processed foods are usually a no no but sometimes hunger took over!

    A Re-introduction!

Thank you very much. I hope all is well with you health wise too. The food choices did sometimes add to the funny side of being in hospital. One of the choices for supper was an Evening Surprise, of course I had to pick it. It was a two by one inch cake. A yellow cake with a best before date of...

    A Re-introduction!

I think very highly of the NHS. The individual doctors and consultants (and I saw a lot!) were superb. As were those working in the labs whom I did not see. I want to fight for the NHS and tell that Mr *unt where to go!

    A Re-introduction!

I have not been around for a long time! Hence the title. Long story cut very short, I thought I was suffering from sciatica problems last June and was popping pain relief until the GP could do something about it. He had requested a scan for me but we all know GP requests take ages. I collapsed...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Mine was 5.8 and I have been in hospital (not diabetes related) for nearly three weeks. The food is awful, cooked ìn Wales and transported to Scotland!

    It's like walking up hill.

I have a vibrodisc which may be helpful to you. You can buy them on the tellybox shopping channels who offer terms to spread the cost over a few months. I have also seen them on ebay at around £50 but mainly collect only.

Doing good on my diet but energy is low!

Hang in there, it does take time to get used to a new way of eating. You should feel more energised soon.

    All alone in Greece..

Greek pharmacist are very highly trained and sell drugs only available here on prescription. Knowing a few important phrases will help big time. I can help you with that if you pm. As for food, if you are carnivorous, no problem, lots of meat in Greece and they don't add pastry to it. Greek...

What are your diabetes management goals for the next 3 months and how will you achieve it?

My goal is to lower my hba1c to 'normal' ie under 41, it is currently 43, and lose weight. I shall do this by continuing with low carbing and being more active.

    Stopping smoking

I stopped smoking nearly six years ago using Champix. My GP was hesitant as Champix is not recommended for anyone with depression. I was not depressed, just grieving as I had lost my husband a few months beforehand. He asked me if it was a good time to stop, I replied yes, as I am all my son...

    Working when retired

As lovinglife says, it all depends on your income and age. This page from Gov.uk should answer your question. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/rates-and-allowances-income-tax/income-tax-rates-and-allowances-current-and-past

    Second Diabetic Clinic Appointment

Got the results of my blood test and my Hbac1 is down from 73 three months ago to 43. I am really chuffed at this. I put the success down to everything I learned on this forum and to the advice I received from the good people here. The practice nurse however seems to be taking the glory, she...
