@Foligno An HbA1C of 48 is the internationally recognised cut off level for Diabetes, so it should not be thought of as the target for Blood Glucose. Where we can, it is better, if possible, to get the HbA1C below 48 or even 42 which in the UK is considered the starting level for pre-diabetes...

How to structure exercise and food?

Here is a quote from Dr Jason Fung's book 'The Obesity Code': "Diet and exercise are not fifty-fifty partners like macaroni and cheese. Diet is like Batman abd exercise is Robin. Diet does 95 percent of the work and deserves all the attention; so logically it would be sensible to focus on diet...

    mis-diagnosis possible?

Hi @grantg Yes, it is possible to be diagnosed as Type 1 and then for subsequent tests to confirm you are actually Type 2, as well as the other way around. I have no personal experience of this but I'm tagging @Chris24Main who is Type 2 but was originally thought to be Type1.

The role of exercise - how important for weight loss?

Two 'doctor' programs on UK TV have had a GP (i think they were different GPs) say that several medical studies have shown that in the majority of cases, people who exercise more to lose weight don't lose any (or negligible) weight over a few months. The supposed reason being that all that...

Very quick remission - false test?

Hi @eddye88 The HbA1C tests are fairly accurate, but the difference between 2 tests may be 1 or 2 mmol. Your red blood cells (with the test is based upon) live for about 12 weeks, so 5 weeks is certainly enough time to make that magnitude of difference if you have made serious diet and...

    Low carb meal plan

Hi @jackie500 I feel that you are probably misinformed about weight loss and fats and also about cholesterol and fats. Most people here who eat in a Low Carb way don't cut calories or fats. This makes it a lot easier for planning meals because you can just remove the higher carbohydrate stuff...

    Greetings

It is unusual to lose muscle mass on a LCHF way of eating unless you are vegetarian/vegan or also cutting down on calories, which isn't required for T2D remission or for weight loss or for reducing Blood Pressure. LCHF is more accurately called Low Carb High Protein Highish Fat provided that no...

    Meal timings and Metformin

Metformin is only taken with meals because of that helping to minimise its side effects on the digestive system. The time of day that a particular dose it's taken doesn't otherwise matter

    Introduction

Hello to you. Excuse me, but since you say that you don't have diabetes and don't mention being a relative or friend of somebody who has diabetes, then I wonder why you have joined this forum.

    High readings

@Neeny84 We T2 diabetics are all different, but in general exercise (both for weight loss and for t2D control) is over-rated. Because aerobic exercise often leads to raised blood glucose (the liver dumps glucose in your bloodstream to give you more energy), it usually makes you hungry and so...

    Low carb shopping

We get our roasted unsalted hazelnuts from GrapeTree. I have never bought any other types of roasted unsalted nuts, but didn't think they were actually a real thing. But if the supermarkets don't have them, then try wholefood/Healthfood stores either physical shops or online. Personally my low...

    Prediabetic diagnosis and questions

Hi @mshaf and welcome to the forum. For somebody trying to either lose weight or control/postpone T2 diabetes through Low Carb way of eating, It's quite important to know the cab content of the main things you like to eat. Both Watermelon and Strawberries are Low Carb fruit as are Raspberries...

Nobody told me Metformin causes explosive Diarrhea

Hi NoMoreBeerAnymore Metformin doesn't affect everybody that way, and for those where it does, sometimes the effect i only for a week or 2. However, there are only 3 ways I know of to reduce this effect in those who get it. Only 2 if you exclude ditching it in favour of an alternative drug. ...

    Intermittent Fasting (16/8) Results Check

Hi and welcome to the forum. I'm rather confused by you details since you both say you don't have diabetes and that you have Type 1 diabetes (which is a type that can't be controlled by anything diet or weight loss). If you really are Type 1, then I can't give advice except that the NHS advises...

    Neuropathy pain relief

Sorry, no help, but just want to show sympathy. I know how it is to have a problem with opiates, though in my case it's just that they have no pain reduction effect on me. I had noticed that OTC opiate analgesics had no effect compared to aspirin, ibuprofen and paracetamol, but it was only when...

    HbA1c

The main attraction of LCHF over other lifestyle ways of controlling Type 2 diabetes is that you don't starve because you can eat as much almost zero carb food such as meat, fish, eggs, cheese as you want to. I was an already slim T2D who loved food, so the last thing I wanted to do was starve...
