Mmol/l at time of being diagnosed,

After a month of symptoms, I tested my blood and it was 24mmol/l. When seeing my Dr he said this is slipping into diabetic coma territory. Nothing like a scare like that to tell you you're ill. This was 11 years ago. One thing that might happen is that you will be told to continue eating a...

Does low carbing improve insulin sensitivity?

I've been on a very low carb diet for about 4 weeks now. My fast acting (Humalog) Insulin intake has reduced dramatically. e.g. a meal with some potatoes, or a pasta dish, I would be taking around 20-30 units of Humalog. Instead of taters or pasta, I now have broccoli or green beans. And my...

Low Carb and IDT2D - slow fat loss?

Hi everyone, I'm and Insulin Dependent T2D and I've been very low carbing for about 4 weeks now. The great news is how much less Insulin I now take. For an evening meal I used to take anywhere between 20-30 units of Humalog, and now I'm around 10 or fewer units. Which is fab. And my BG readings...

Newly Diagnosed - In denial ?

Thanks y'all. I don't actually know what the tests were. I gave the blood, they did their thing and I had a conversation. My signature was a little fun. I gotta have the fun or the diabetes will drive me potty. I've been told I was a Type 1 by my specialist and now I'm learning that cannot...

Cheers Dad :joyful: I've now self diagnosed myself to LADA. I now believe I was given the wrong info. Shout out to @GrantGam and @azure for the great information

    Get Your Oatmeal!!

This ain't right. Eating 26g of fibre is one thing, but in a recommended 40g portion or oatmeal (i used to have 30g) there is 3.6g of fibre. You'd have to eat approx 300g of oatmeal to get that 26g. Which would equate to 180g of carbs. And thus this (and literally all breakfast cereal) sure...

Newly Diagnosed - In denial ?

I only saw my specialist yesterday, and it won't be months until I go back. But i'll certainly be asking when I do. ;)

Newly Diagnosed - In denial ?

Good plan. I will discuss this with my doc next time I see them. Fortunately, I'm in total control, which is the most important thing.

Newly Diagnosed - In denial ?

You know @MikeTurin, I've just been reading about LADA and I think you're right. This hasn't been mentioned once in my 11 years though. Perhaps the Docs thought they might confuse me  *sigh*

    Hiya I'm emma

Oh no. I'm so sorry to hear that, @Emmajc. Sounds like you're not responding to that medication very well at all. I'm amazed the Docs keep you on it. I hadn't heard of Sukato before, but there are other tablets out there. One of which I used, and I know many other do with no side effects, is...

Newly Diagnosed - In denial ?

I've updated my signature to clear up some doubt. Doubts which I now have. My Doctors have told me this is what happened, and I've just gone along with it. My assumption being that they know what they are talking about!!

Newly Diagnosed - In denial ?

I'm learning a lot today, @azure . @GrantGam said the same thing in a different tpost. This is what happens when doctors tell you things. My initial Doc said I was type 2, then 9 years later I'm told I'm actually a Type 1. The next time I have my half year check-up I'll be asking them to...

    BG observation after the gym

Yeah, Insanity is aptly named. I've know people to puke when starting it. And cry. lol If you can get past the initial insanity of it all it is wonderous. You feel amazing and supremely powerful.

Thanks @GrantGam . I'll make point of checking with my doc. It's quite possible they don't even know this!!

    BG observation after the gym

Aye, having paid for a membership just crack on :) I did go to the gym but found I tried too hard, and ended injuring myself. And that I can do this lot in the comfort of my own home without having to get in the car, etc etc. Good luck

Interesting. I was originally told I a T2D and was either losing sensitivity to insulin or not producing enough. I was on Metformin and another pill for several years. Then after a while, I was having to supplement this with Insulin injections. And finally a couple of years ago I came of the...

    BG observation after the gym

Want to get into shape? You can do this little lot at home so no need for a gym membership: At the high-end you have Insanity (approx 1 hour per workout) (OMG prepare to have your ass kicked) High end (but only 30 minutes) is Insanity Max 30! (Jeez) Just right and a good kicking (at 25 minutes)...

Diabetes should never be an excuse

Totally agree @Type1Bri. I've done Insanity, Insanity Max 30, P90X, P90X3, Body Beast and The Ultimate Yogi. There's no need for Diabetes to hold you back. It's just a blood sugar condition. Monitor wisely and you're good to tackle anything. p.s. very high-intensity exercises I mentioned can...

    Glucose monitor problems

Can't think of anything wrong with my monitor. I tended to not monitor a lot and guess my insulin intake depending on the food I was going to eat. I only really tested when I felt high/low. I test all the time now, as I'm doing LCHF. My monitor is a Freestyle InsuLinx
