    Can protein cause BG spikes

It was at 9:30am. Watched the grand Prix and then ate. I'm on rybelsus so can't eat first thing. I've gotten into the habit of doing a fasting test as soon as I get up and take the rybelsus, and then not testing unless I eat something new I want to check up on or something "carby" Mat

    Can protein cause BG spikes

Can protein cause blood glucose to spike? I tested at 7.8 first thing today. And ate a larger than normal almost zero cooked brunch (sausage bacon eggs and mushrooms) as I was feeling hungrier than normal at around 11am At 4pm I tested 9.6! Nothing to eat in between. No real exercise either...

    Snack ideas

I drive for a living too, (taxi). I find the key to staying low carb whilst working is a bit of preparation in advance. I now take everything I plan on eating that shift out with me in a small cool bag. Relying on corner shops/petrol stations etc to provide something suitable just constantly...

Low carb how long does it take ?

A month ago my HBA1C was 93. I've been eating a reduced but not ultra low carb diet for the last couple of weeks and I'm already seeing 6's and 7's on my first test of the day. You can save a bit on strips by only testing before and after meals that contain significant carb content. Not much...

    Carb counting Apps

Could I ask what apps people re using to count carbs? I used to use my fitness Pal, but have recently logged back in and found that they have put the barcode scanner behind the paywall. I've d/loaded and tested MyNetDiary, but I'm finding it's database is very inaccurate, the carbs shown in...

    Bulking out slow cooker recipies

I had a go at making the microwave bread today. Came out ok, I'd say more cake than bread consistency. Made a nice lunch with some skinny food fake "nuttela" spread on it. Had a bit of a bitter aftertaste.

    Bulking out slow cooker recipies

Mashed cauliflower sounds absolutely disgusting ;) Mybe I should have mentioned in the original post that I'm really not a fan of cooked green veg . . The bread thing on the other hand looks worth a try I was also thinking of maybe adding beans/pulses to the stews, but looking up on...

    Bulking out slow cooker recipies

I love my slow cooker, especially at this time of year, but I'm trying to reduce carbs and looking for lower carb additions / accompaniments - Beef stew is just missing something without dumplings, and sausage casserole really needs a nice dollop of mashed potato . . . . Any suggestions ? TIA Mat

Using a meter to track progress

You posted me some useful meter advice in another thread a couple of days ago Thanks again. Mat

Using a meter to track progress

The postman delivered the meter just after I posted that. And as it was both roughly 2 hours after my omelette for breakfast and I had a new toy to play with I did a quick test and scored 7.4. Which is really encouraging after an HBA1C of 93 just a couple of weeks ago! I'm not newly diagnosed...

Using a meter to track progress

After a recent very high HBA1C test, I've embarked on a plan of reducing carbs and increasing exercise. As I can only have an HBA1C test occasionally I'd like to use a meter to roughly track my progress. Is the best way to do this to track my fasting level in the mornings? Look for a general...

Not new, but returning after a long break

Hi Everyone, I've been here before, but a long time ago. I was diagnosed T2 12 years ago now, and kind of fell off the good management wagon during lockdown etc. I had my first blood test for 4 years last week, and was somehat shocked to have an HBA1C of 93!! I came away from my...

    Help with Metformin

I've tried that, also tried building the dose up gradually over several weeks, nothing works, seems I just can't tolerate it. And having reduced control of your digestive tract is not good for a taxi driver! Mat

    Atkins chocolate bars

Are Atkins chocolate bars really as low carb as claimed on the wrapper? Just noticed a really big spike in my BG an hour after eating a 30g Crispy milk chocolate bar! 3:15 tested at 7.6 Went for 20 mins swim, 10 mins in jacuzzi 4:30 starting work (driver so testing every two hours), tested...

    Help with Metformin

I've been doing a lot of reading of these forums over the last few days, and remember seeing a post about a brand of Metformin that was designed to be absorbed in the stomach rather than the intestine to avoid the side effects, but can't find it again!!! Strangely searching with the terms...
