    Sabotaged by partner ?

Does anyone else feel that their partner is either unwittingly, or deliberately out to sabotage their efforts to control DB ? I'm currently out of work, and as such I organise most of our food shopping and prepare most of our meals, I've tried to keep some variety, but have been preparing...

    Very first meter reading

Why not try ditching the mash and having half your normal amount of roasties and testing after! roast is the best way for us to eat spuds now. I started testing myself almost a week ago and I found that I could get away with that last weekend! Mat

    The Codefree meter

I've got one of these as well and am happy with it. But it's my first meter so I don't have anything to compare it with! Mat

    BG testing results

My levels on diagnosis a few weeks ago were in the 20's, after a few weeks of lowish carbing (I aim for 100-120g a day) I regularly testing in the 6.x's 2 hours after meals. Unfortunately I didn't have a meter all that time so don't know exactly how quickly they came down Mat

vit b12 deficiency - Pernicious anemia

If you read the PA society's forums (http://www.pernicious-anaemia-society.org/) you'll find that the only reason it's unusual to get the injection more than every three months because Doctors seem to be very reluctant to prescribe it more often. I managed to persuade my Dr to let me have a jab...

    Low carb help please.

My understanding is that If you weighed it raw the carbs stay the same even if you fry it The second figure is for weighing it once fried - the heat removes water, which reduces weight and therefore concentrates the carbs and calories! Mat

    Low carb help please.

I've been using the weight loss resources website, it has a huge database of foods all fat, carb and calorie counted, I was using it to count calories before diagnosis, but now mainly use it to count carbs! Sadly it is a pay site, but I've not found a free site with a comparable database. Mat

    Interpreting test results

Gave this a try with my evening meal today, before I tested at 5.6, two hours after 5.9 (approx 60 grams of carbs in the meal, slice of pork pie, pickles and lots of salad) I'm quite pleased with that test! Mat

    Interpreting test results

Thanks everyone, I'm quite pleased right now, as only 4 weeks ago I tested at 24 on a fingerprick test with my DSN! And especially pleased that my roast lamb on Sunday didn't seem to cause any problems (although I did cut back a lot on my spuds, stuffing and yorkie puds!) Mat

    Meter Not reviewed?

I've just bought one of the SD Meters, and although it's my first meter I'm quite impressed. Small light, easy to use. the finger pricking device seems a bit "weak" though, even on it's highest setting it's barely breaking my skin, and I have to squeeze my finger a bit to get a drop of...

    Interpreting test results

Hi all again :) My new BG Meter turned up yesterday, so today I've started making my fingers sore and testing my own BG levels :) I tested when I first woke, and 2 hours after each meal - can I conclude from these results that everything I ate today was OK for me? Waking 6.5 after breakfast...

Quick question - used Lancets and strips

Actually our dustmen will only collect rubbish in black sacks - no wheely bins etc here! So putting sharps in the bin does risk exposing them to getting jabbed !! Mat

    Snack ideas needed

I've been making up sugar free Jelly in plastic pots and keeping them in the fridge - 20 cals and 1 carb in 1/4 of a pack, and for me at least sweet enough that it takes the edge off of a sugar craving :) Mat

Quick question - used Lancets and strips

My new SD Monitor arrived today, and after doing a quick test to check it all works I'm left wondering what is the correct way of disposing of used Lancets and strips? Can they go in domestic rubbish or do I need to do something special with them ? Mat
