    Insulin & Blood Glucose

If you want to find out what your own insulin production is - you can do two things a) arrange for a fasting insulin test which ill tell you the ball park levels of your fasting insulin an b) do an OGTT insulin assay - which shows your insulin responds over time since eating. ( look up...

    Blood sugar spikes

Hi there, Yes it quite likely that you can fix this simply with diet, many of us have , including me. @daisy1 will be along shortly to explain the overall principles, meanwhile if you look up the low carb program here and check out dietdoctor.com, if you follow the principles outlined...

    Reversing T2

Your name states you are insulin dependent? is that still correct? Congratulations on getting the number down :) "Reversal " of T2 diabetes would be when one can eat high carb foods and the same reaction to them that a non diagnosed person would have , whilst taking no medication. One...

My personal hypothesis - T2 - Low insulin Diet

I think for all of this, finding the stuff you like and building a diet around it is the prime thing. if you are conscious what is in the foods you eat, then its easy to figure out how to balance it - Hellman's mayo is a classic " go to" for many - and I love it myself. I must admit...

My personal hypothesis - T2 - Low insulin Diet

A good run down, but it presumes that saturated fats are bad for you - and thus anything with low saturated fat must be a good thing. I don't particularly buy that at all. So I don't try to eat olive oil in preference to butter, lard, goose fat or duck fat because I like the fact that...

Should we start talking about “Low Fructose” instead of “Low Carb”……

Thank you for your comment, but I don't think I am mixed up, in so far as what I have written is consistent with the theory proposed in the video. Watch the video at 24 minutes citing the polyol pathway and a study done in 1984. The theory is put forward by Dr Gary Fettke and talks about...

My personal hypothesis - T2 - Low insulin Diet

Day 21 of the Low Insulin Diet (starting weight 91.6 kg, current 85.4 kg ) Waist size 86.0 cm (starting 94 cm) Overall 0.6 kg down Yesterday I ate 1800 calories as per the plan, in three small meals 67% fat overall , 22g carbs, and including 4 single malts I also went for a walk and...

    Fasting Insulin Test take 2

I had already decided that next time round I need to make sure its as close as possible in timing conditions to the last one. I chose 4 pm for the same reason as when I eat my foods - being that that is when I have got through the morning liver dump.

My personal hypothesis - T2 - Low insulin Diet

Agreed entirely - I chose it for now ( in small doses) because I am seriously vitamin D deficient. But having said that I am also happy to add other fish oils and for that matter olive oil - but then I'm also happy to add butter, goose fat, duck fat, lard , grass fed beef and properly...

    Fasting Insulin Test take 2

What about the fasting ? - fasting does gradually bring it down the longer one hasn't eaten - are you sure you were using the same timescale and it was following similar periods of fasting prior to it ? :) - tis a tough world ! though to be honest my gut feel is that if your insulin...

My personal hypothesis - T2 - Low insulin Diet

Fibre comes in two kinds - soluble fibre and insoluble fibre. When you eat real food fibre you are eating to- two things Insoluble fibre ( the stringy bits) that forms a lattice work to which the soluble fibre sticks - when you then ingest food , it has to penetrate the filled lattice...

My personal hypothesis - T2 - Low insulin Diet

http://bjsm.bmj.com/content/51/15/1111 I am impressed to see that here, finally a doctor is putting the issue in terms that a layman can actually understand. the term "insulin resistance " has been used millions of times and still leads to major confusion from many of us as to whether we...

    Weight gain

The reason I ask, is that many of the standard diets focus heavily on low calorie, low fat. These do work to lose weight but because many of them still include a lot of processed foods and carbohydrates , they do not actually help you to control glucose as easily as switching to a different...

Saturated fat does not clog arteries

http://bjsm.bmj.com/content/51/15/1111 Yep I know this from my own lipid profiles. Its nice to see cardiac specialists joining the frey ! It is also interesting to see that Dr Malhotra has started to clarify "insulin resistance" to call it Insulin resistance (chronically high levels of...

    Weight gain

Congratulations on the weight loss :) how did you achieve that ? have you got much further to go? If carbs make you feel horrible, then that would seem to be a pretty good reason to not eat them. Carbs are not essential . Have you had full tests to show how much insulin you are producing...

    Fasting Insulin Test take 2

Interesting results @bulkbiker. Fasting insulin is pulsatile like both glucose and cholesterol, though on average it will revolve round similar places ( also like glucose and cholesterol). Is your diet as strict now as it was the last time you did this? the trigs number suggests a...

Thanks for the info. In the end this is all about sharing ideas and seeing if we can find ways to help ourselves and others. Its a long slow haul, so simply sharing is great.

My personal hypothesis - T2 - Low insulin Diet

I am repeating this post (in answer to thread about fructose) here - because its reminding me my I'm doing this ! "In my opinion, Of course ingesting too much fructose in the form of fruits -with juiced fruit being far worse ( because they have no fibre- which helps slow the ingestion ) will...
