Can you have prediabetes with low insulin levels?

The thing I'm most concerned about is that my condition is maybe an early stage of Type 1, so slowly decreasing insulin levels over time until my pancreas is eventually not producing it anymore That's why I'm asking :(

Can you have prediabetes with low insulin levels?

On my last check, my insulin levels were on the lower side so I was told that my prediabetes isn't caused by insulin resistance. Is that even possible? I always thought that prediabetes and insulin resistance go hand in hand so to speak.

    Confused about diagnosis

Maybe you are right that I can't directly control my fasting numbers, but I want to know if things are headed towards better or worse.

    Confused about diagnosis

Thank you for your reply. I understand that the finger test is just a "snapshot" so to speak, and they cannot be used for a diagnosis, but can I use them to see if my condition is getting better or worse?

    Confused about diagnosis

So... as you can see from my profile I'm a diagnosed prediabetic. I hope that you don't mind that I'm posting here. My doctor diagnosed me with a HBA1C being in the prediabetic range, OGTT (prediabetic as well) and fasting blood glucose, which turned out very high on 2 tests (in a range for...

    Pizza night!

Here is the update. I had a small salad with cucumber, tomato, onion and olive oil. Then I shared a medium 4-cheese pizza with my friend. So I had about 3 slices, standard crust and I did have a bit of tomato sauce because it's my weakness. I also had a glass of dry white wine. So I forgot to...

    Pizza night!

Yes they have some salads, I just checked the menu. I will have a salad by all means, and then I will enjoy some pizza for sure. It's not like I eat it every day. It's been more than 3 months since I had pizza.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

I like almost every kind of food (not a fussy eater), but I'm not too fond of nuts, seeds, olive oil, avocados... I'm indifferent towards fruits and sweet things like chocolates, cakes, cookies.... So I don't eat them. At all. I can live without fast food as well. Maybe like once a month, on...

    Pizza night!

Of course I will let you all know how it went. To be honest, I'm curious too. @MissMuffett I always get dry wine regardless... I thought it actually lowers the blood sugars :( I love wine, it's the only alcohol I ever drink. But I will try not to go overboard because it is harder to maintain...

    Concerned about post meal numbers

The meal was: 2 pieces of rye toast (around 70-80gr), grilled chicken breast, 100gr full fat greek yogurt and a salad with mixed vegetables, no dressing. Before meal: 6.7 1 hour after first bite: 10.3 2 hours after first bite: 9.7 Should I be concerned about those readings? I understand they...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

The thing is, I'm severely underweight and I'm not really sure what to do in this situation. I need to eat enough obviously and lowering carbs just makes me lose more weight. I can't afford that at the moment. As for my meals, I eat "balanced" meals. When I eat carbs, I always make sure to pair...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Yes, I've been just recently diagnosed. I'm still in a bit of a disbelief because other than family history of type 2, I don't have other risk factors. I'm testing before and after meals as well and while these numbers don't look good at all, the fasting numbers are ... shocking to me. I just...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

8 mmol/l Yesterday it was 7.9 I'm in a bit of panic mode because those are apparently diabetic levels. By no means I should diagnose myself but why is this? Consistently measuring 10 hours after my last meal.

When to test? 2 hours after a start OR after finishing the meal?

Yes exactly. Two hours after first bite. Sorry if I sounded unclear, English is not my mother tongue :)

When to test? 2 hours after a start OR after finishing the meal?

So, after first bite. That was exactly the information that I was looking for. Thank you! :)

I cannot find any info about this. Does this make a difference?

    Pizza night!

They serve salads as appetizers. A salad and a half a pizza is a good option actually. BUT I'm really tempted to see what a pizza would do to me in terms of numbers :)

    Pizza night!

It is my best friend's birthday so I'm afraid I won't be able to avoid eating. He is aware of my health situation though, but I don't want to make it all weird. As for the diabetes situation: I have lots of family members with Type 2, and they are not overweight by any means. On the contrary...
