    Pizza night!

This weekend I'm invited to an Italian restaurant. They only serve pizzas and pastas. I'm not a fan of pasta so I might as well get a pizza. I very rarely eat at restaurants and maybe once a month I would get something like pizza or fast food. A bit of background: Recently been diagnosed as...

    Newly diagnosed and confused

That's interesting. From what I've read, MODY stands for "Maturity-onset diabetes of the young" and it shows up at a relatively young age. Now, I'm (relatively) young (in my early 30s). But in all of my family members, the diabetes appeared at an older age. I think, 50+ or even later.

As far as I know, no. They are all classified as Type 2. I know something about LADA but MODY is a whole new concept to me... And it gets more and more confusing :/

    Newly diagnosed and confused

@DJC3 Since getting my prediabetes diagnosis I've been experimenting with adding more fat and/or protein to my meals in the form of meat, fish, full fat dairy, nuts etc. and all it does it makes me feel very satiated very quickly (i.e. ending up in a calories deficit at the end of the day) as I...

    Newly diagnosed and confused

@Antje77 And what I forgot to mention before (and I think is quite significant), I have a family of Type 2, however, and all of them are/were thin or pretty much at the lower end of normal weight. I'm really afraid that if it is determined by genetics, I can only slow down the progression but...

    Newly diagnosed and confused

@JoKalsbeek I'm frequently seeing around 10mmol/l an hour after eating and 8 or 9 mmol/l, two to three hours after a meal (and these days I have been more careful around carbs mind you), so eating only whole wheat, beans, small amounts of rice and potatoes etc, and always paired with fat and...

    Newly diagnosed and confused

@JoKalsbeek I was just doing routine bloodwork because yes, I've noticed that I've lost some kgs recently without really trying. I have been thin my whole life, but now it just seemed too drastic for me. My clothes are falling off me. And I was feeling very fatigued as well. My bloodwork did...

@JoKalsbeek I'm really sorry that you weren't able to tackle your health issues much earlier. Which brings me to the fact that I'm actually grateful that I'm diagnosed with prediabetes now... I understand how much of a difference an early diagnosis (or even just a warning sign) can make...

    Newly diagnosed and confused

@JoKalsbeek Thank you for this very useful reply! I have read a lot about the dawn phenomenon and while I know it exists, it is usually connected to prediabetics and diabetics (from what I've read) and it is not as pronounced in healthy people. A fasting blood sugar of 10mmol/l just seems...

New pre diabetic trying to gain muscle

I need to gain weight as well, as I have very low body fat and almost no muscle mass. I'm curious to see if this can be done without eating lots of carbs.

    Newly diagnosed and confused

Hello. I've been recently diagnosed with prediabetes. I've been checking my fasting blood glucose levels in the last few days and honestly, I'm scared because While at some days the levels are in the prediabetic range (above 6mmol/l but not higher than 7), I'm getting some very bad readings as...
