I have read that a diagnosis of prediabetes means you are entered onto the Diabetic Register

.Is this correct? If it is what does it actually mean and how does it affect things like travel insurance? I had 2 HbA1c tests a year apart with a huge improvement in weight loss and lifestyle yet the 2 results were identical much to the drs surprise. As I had made such changes he said I have...

    Oral glucose tests using Lucozade?

That's good to know but I can think of better things to spend £85.00 on!! I really am just wanting to get an idea of what is happening with my blood. I have the feeling all is OK but felt that way about my hypertension and was quite wrong. I see you were diagnosed last October with an A1c of...

    Oral glucose tests using Lucozade?

Thank you all for your helpful replies. I want to do this as I was told I was prediabetic and I would like to have some idea whether what I am doing is so far working. My A1c in January was only just in the prediabetic level and even that's debateable. I'm not due to have it repeated until the...

    Oral glucose tests using Lucozade?

I read somewhere that if one is worried about a diagnosis of diabetes it is possible to do a test at home with a glucose meter using Lucozade without going to the drs and having 'DM T2' forever on one's notes. I'm sure this wouldn't be accurate but would give one an idea and a chance to do...

    Should I be concerned?

Sorry for delay in replying haven't been online for a while. I totally understand what you have said; it was my dr who said otherwise. I'm guessing he meant that had I not taken severe steps to alter my lifestyle over almost a year the numbers would have risen. As it is they have stayed the...

    Should I be concerned?

Hello, I am 71 and female. I had a health check in Feb 2013 and they found borderline high cholesterol [total 5.9] and hypertension [163/90.]. A 24 hr monitor confirmed the hypertension and after a few months they put me on medication which I have adhered to religiously. [Losartan 50mg] Months...

    'diabetic breakfast' on Eurostar

OMG that is truly unbelievable. I'm only a prediabetic and working hard at not progressing further, but even I know that if a diabetic followed that sort of diet they would be in serious trouble. Makes you wonder who the idiots are that dream these menus up!

Having being told back in January that I was prediabetic [A1c was 5.9 or 41 mmol/mol]

Having being told back in January that I was prediabetic [A1c was 5.9 or 41 mmol/mol]

Have to say I was rather hoping that would be the case Jack but wasn't really sure. My real reason for purchasing the meter was that if another A1c showed a rise as the dr said it would I would be a sitting duck for DM. Dr seems to think I am anyway so it would be great to prove him wrong!!

Having being told back in January that I was prediabetic [A1c was 5.9 or 41 mmol/mol]

I bought myself a Codefree meter to try and see which foods would spike my blood. I'd had an NHS health check in Jan 2013 where they had focussed on hypertension and it was only months later, when I saw my medical notes online, that I realised the A1c was bumping on the upper limit of' 'normal'...

Why does glicazide [is this a sulphonurea?] cause you to put on weight?

Just a query as I read on this site that this is what happens. What are sulphonureas anyway, what do they do that metformin doesn't?

Is diabetes T2 in any way connected to hypothyroidism? Only asking as my son is having

He is 45 Totto, of course hopefully doesn't have diabetes, but I did just want to alert him to a possibility. He had hyperthyroidism about 5 yrs ago and now has hypothyroidism. In my ignorance I found that strange. He's living in the Far East for the moment but they are probably just as good, if...

Is diabetes T2 in any way connected to hypothyroidism? Only asking as my son is having

Hi Totsy and Scotty, thank you for your replies. It will be interesting to see what his further blood tests say. He says he has put on a large amount of weight which initially he put down to his wife's excellent cooking, clearly it isn't just that. As I'm at high risk for Type 2, I wondered if...

Is diabetes T2 in any way connected to hypothyroidism? Only asking as my son is having

lots of blood tests as he has been told he has hypothyroidism and he is awaiting results. He has put on a large amount of weight and probably needs to sort his diet better, but I would like to be able to point him in the direction of some constructive help via this, or some other site. A few...

At a recent hypertension review I confided my fears of prediabetes to my usual dr.

Hi Mud Island. I'm trying to go more low carb. Until recently I would have said I was eating that way and had lost weight that way; then another diabetic friends suggested I bought a small carb counter book and I realise I've been quite wrong. Never realised for example how many 'hidden' carbs...

At a recent hypertension review I confided my fears of prediabetes to my usual dr.

High risk/prediabetes, aren't they all the same thing ? Suffering from information overdose at the moment - need to sort out what is relevant and what isn't. Trouble is it's all relevant to some degree and I can't take it all in. Altzheimers kicking in I suppose !! Much of what you post Diamond...
