    Traveling to UAE.

I haven't been on holiday to Dubai but I have travelled through the airport with a pump and had no problems whatsoever.

    Newly Diagnosed type 1

Hi @DannyMilbourne, welcome. I hope you aren't feeling too overwhelmed :( I wish I had some encouraging words for you, maybe try not to attempt to understand it all now, just take it one day at a time and come back here and ask any questions you have. Everyone else here is knowledgeable and...

    Medic alert

Mine came from wowbands which are now sold on funkypumpers (I haven't ordered from there myself as I've had mine for several years)...

How long have you been diabetic?

Type 1 for 23 years Whoops I forgot how to count! It's actually 24 years :bag:

    Medic alert

I wear a silicone wristband that says 'type 1 diabetes' on one side and 'insulin pump' on the other :)

    The cure for diabetes

If you have a tv licence/iplayer account you can watch about a trial that's starting where I live (starts about 6 minutes in) for people with recently diagnosed diabetes https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0016vd2/look-north-north-east-and-cumbria-evening-news-26042022 (I'm not sure how long...

I'm supposed to take mine to the GPs, they stopped taking them because of covid and I'm not sure if they've started again. I keep forgetting to ask :(

    Medtronics Postage Abroad

Hi @nick-o, I use the Medtronic eshop to order my consumables and last time I changed my address with them (when I moved house) it took several days and I had to email them because it wasn't updating on my account :nailbiting: My concerns would be whether they would ship to a different country...

    Coffee?

I agree with those above, but some people do find caffeine raises their BG levels. Might be worth trying decaf?

    What Will I Need?

I use a Medtronic pump so the cannulas are different to the ones you'll be using, but I usually find cannulas fail fairly infrequently, however today mine failed and the previous one did as well :nailbiting: that's unusual for me and typically maybe two or three times a year I'll get a dodgy...

    What Will I Need?

Hi @TIGERLILY1991, You can clip your pump to your bra or to the waistband of your underwear, it doesn't necessarily have to go on your waistband, I'm not pregnant but I find pump belts quite uncomfortable personally. I'm sure some are better than others though. This video is quite handy for...

    Travelling abroad with insulin pump

I've had more problems explaining to English-speakers that I can't go through the scanner than I have with speakers of other languages, although I haven't been to Turkey. The airports I thought I'd have problems at were probably the least problematic :D in my experience a lot of airports don't...

    Travelling abroad with insulin pump

Ooh those don't look like my Mio cannulas. I'm not very good at describing but it's like what connects the tubing to the cannula, without the tubing. Like this below. I currently have the clear ones so if I took a photo it probably wouldn't be much help! I'm not familiar with what's in your...

    Travelling abroad with insulin pump

Hi @smc4761, I've had no problems with cannulas coming loose with heat, swimming pools etc, unless you normally have problems with cannulas coming loose I wouldn't worry too much about it happening on your holiday. Obviously take plenty of spare cannulas etc. I think it's recommended (as with...

    Type 1 Insulin pumps.

Hi @Neil., I've had 2 pumps that cracked, the first one was the battery compartment that cracked after I'd had it about 3.5 years and then the replacement cracked on the front after a few months, just a small crack on the central button, but I kept using it as it was out of warranty and I had no...

Type 1 and other autoimmune conditions

If it helps (probably not :)) my mum has lupus and has never had shingles. It probably doesn't feel like a good thing being referred to the immunology clinic, but if there is something else going on at least you can find out what that is and get some answers, sometimes it can take many years to...

Type 1 and other autoimmune conditions

I have a few autoimmune conditions and have had shingles a few times, the first time I think I was 12/13. Like @Rokaab I've never been to an immunology clinic, although I was seen in a rheumatology clinic once when I just had the type 1 (unrelated-ish to my diabetes).
