@maglil55 And your slugs should have lovely strong bones!

@Rachox I'm intrigued - are your daily strawberries fresh? Or maybe frozen?

Advice on diet that doesn't drop weight

@Blackwater5 neither do I. In fact at present I have neither microwave nor freezer, which does rather cramp my style in the kitchen. Luckily, like you I need to gain weight rather than lose it, so I make daily use of my frying pan, with a choice between good olive oil and goose fat. I fry...

Advice on diet that doesn't drop weight

@Blackwater5 I find unopened feta keeps for ages in the fridge. Could you visit a large Tesco with more of a range occasionally and stock up? I know this doesn't address all the other problems, but you have to start somewhere. Olives too in jars keep almost forever. I live alone, but I always...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@shelley262 Thank-you so much for this thorough and practical reply. I have seen venison steaks in Morrisons, but never venison mince. My problem just now is that my freezer has died, so buying meat online won't work. However I am intending to make a trip to Waitrose for low carb sausages in a...

    Type 1.5 Jury service

@lexiex29, When I was asked to do jury service I asked to be excused on the grounds of my many and various health problems. If I were LADA like you, even with no other health difficulties, I would write asap mentioning all the requirements I might have. Might you need to test, inject, eat at...

So frustrating, but at least you can tell yourself you are doing a great and thorough job of managing what you can.

    Pre-Diabetes?? Confused

@NickiSanta Yes I'm afraid so. Have you got a meter with the cheapest possible strips? I and a lot of people here use the Navii from Home Health @Rachox[/USER] has posted some extremely useful tips for cost cutting: "HOME HEALTH have the Gluco Navii, which is a fairly new model and seems to...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@Annb how long after did you test this meal? When I don't see an expected rise, I am always suspicious that it may have come later. I read in Dr Cavan's book on T1 that a high protein meal can take 4 hours to show up. Not that bubble & squeak is in itself high protein. I have read elsewhere that...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@shelley262 Admirable! I would like to follow your example when I am less preoccupied, so do please post full details of your proceedings. I spend a fortune on live kimchi, and rather less on live sauerkraut, but worse than the expense is the inconvenient trip to the wholefood shop to buy them.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@Goonergal Ah the joy of these small wins. Lately I keep finding Sainsbury's Organic double cream yellow stickered, imo MUCH nicer than the basic sort. Such luxury, and at a bargain price! (Seems to keep OK long after use-by date.)

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@Annb Maybe you are about to start a new life of real coffee with double cream (1T double cream = 0.3gc). NB instant coffee = 0.5gc per cup black, so no better than tea. 8 cups of real coffee would of course be OTT for caffeine (though tea does contain some), but decaff? 8T double cream = only...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@shelley262 Please, where did you buy this? (I'm assuming you did buy it, rather than shooting, skinning and mincing it yourself.)

Advice on diet that doesn't drop weight

@Blackwater5, certainly you can, in Waitrose (dearer), Tesco (cheaper), Sainsburys or Morrisons (much cheaper). But do check the labels for carbs. Also I find much feta here is too salty for me.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@Annb, sorry to say, black tea. However it's possible that different teas vary. They mostly don't declare their carb content. Some packets / sites give 0.5gc, some 0.4. Peppermint tea 0.5. My favourite Chai 1.4 ! Adding milk would bump up the carbs a lot. 2T milk = 2gc.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@MrsA2, I was shocked to find out that a cup of tea supplies about 0.5g carbs (versus a cup of brewed real coffee, which seems to be carb-free) so it appears to me that just as something reaches my gut from the tea, the same applies from those cloves. But very little?

Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

Hello @NickiSanta, a warm welcome to the Forum. Imo "newly diagnosed" means you are living through some of the absolutely most miserable hours and days of your pre-diabetes, if not of your life. ("of your diabetes" has a better ring, but would be quite inaccurate, as it is most likely you will...
