    Emphaglozin

I have been taking Jardiance (empagliflozin) now for over 3 years (May 22, 2019), and I have not had any problems with it. However, some of my friends have developed infections/thrush after starting Jardiance - none of them are circumcised though.

    Libre for sport not diabetes

People need to be less busybodies. They should keep their noses out of what other people are doing! Be concerned with your own health period!

    Avocados

That's correct. I live in Canada, and we follow the same convention as the US. The point that I was trying to make is that avocados are actually quite low carb from a diabetes point of view. The variety of avocados that we get mostly here in Canada is a relatively small fruit, about 100-150 g...

    Avocados

Avocados have lots of fibre that need to be deducted to arrive at net carbs which is quite low. This makes it an excellent fruit for diabetics. However, because of CKD I need to to avoid avocados, stemming from its high potassium content.

    Metphormin

I had been taking metformin for about 13 years, but my kidney doctor told me to stop taking it about 3 moths ago. Never had any side-effects that I know of.

Help making sense of blood sugar test results

Keep in mind that all tests have a measurement error factor (albeit relatively small). I would consider the 6.3% on Apr 7th as a probable outlier. As the aic is an average measurement over 3 months, the drop of 0.5% over just 2 weeks seems tho be a little suspect from a statistical perspective.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Yip, some of these terms are quite confusing. When I first saw the term "TEA", I could only interpret it as alternative term for the evening meal from the context, but I never heard it during the years that lived in London, in southern England. My guess is that it is a term used in Northern...

How do they know how many undiagnosed?

I don't know how they made the calculation, but here is how I would do it: Take a random sample of people (say a 1,000) properly stratified among different demographics that may indicate a higher/lower prevalence for diabetes such as gender, age, ethnicity, income levels, regional, lifestyle...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

This looks absolutely delicious. In my distorted view, this would pass as a "pizza in a bowl - a deep dish pizza!"

    Greetings from South Africa (T1d)

Hi M@, I was born in South Africa and grew up there. However, for nearly my entire adult life, I have lived and worked in several different countries. I am retired now, but have lived for the last 30 years in Canada. I am sure that rosemaree would be able to relate some of the practical...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

I googled "pizza bowl", and it gave me the idea of making some fusion dishes, such as pizza meets lasagna meets quiche meets omelette. I'll do it first in the microwave, and then finish under the broiler for a cheesy crust!

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

I am curious about the 'dried sausage'. In South Africa, we had something called droëwors' (droge/droog ? worst in Dutch), but I don't think it is the same.

Is there an eating plan I can follow?

Something else must be going on with you (or this proves again that people are different). The 'general' consensus is that fat in one's diet does not cause cholesterol issues. That was certainly my experience - when I started eating low carb some 4 or 5 years back, many of my friends expressed...

    Why don't people get it?

If some doctors don't even know that cakes are bad for diabetics, how can we expect lay people to be up to date with the fact that cakes are bad, bad, bad, bad for diabetics???

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

The picture of chicken salt looks very similar to a product we had in South Africa called aromat. In the early days of my abode in Canada, I usually brought some with me when I visited my relatives there. However, I have not been back to South Africa for 15 years, so I have forgotten how it tastes.

    Type 1 Tresiba

I am T2, and injecting 40 units of Tresiba daily. Sometimes, I feel a sting, but this happens when I hit a nerve. Other times, I don't feel a thing. Where do you inject the Tresiba - this might also explain it.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

I made something very similar at lunch yesterday, but mine was probably more of a tuna melt: 1 xl egg, whole can of tuna, handful grated mozzarella and 2 teaspoons of tomato/pepper/onion salsa, also done in the microwave. However, I think yours is better, and will certainly try it next time.
