To poop or not to poop

Try soaking the chia seeds & drinking a bunch more water when you eat them otherwise they can have the opposite effect! Chia seeds expand when in contact with moisture, which is fine if it happens in a bowl - in fact it's a great hydrator on that case - but less fine if it happens in your...

New to metformin what foods calm side effects

Sorry, yes I meant they are good foods for a diabetic. Its completely counter to all dietary advice we've ever been given of course & takes a leap of faith to start eating things like cream and cheese again. I spent years doing low fat diets & the thought of using butter to cook, or mixing some...

    Carbohydrate enjoyment

This made me giggle a bit tbh. I have on many an occasion weighed up my right toenail against a cookie & the cookie won. However as a T2 I have to largely ignore cookies despite how lovely they are. Plus I hate needles more than I love cookies & the thought of jabbing myself repeatedly on a...

New to metformin what foods calm side effects

Probiotics definitely help -, as does avoiding refined carbs & all forms of sugar. I found that if Metformin made me unwell it was because I ate something that was not good for my blood sugar. Protein, cheese, cream, all above ground veg are generally all good. Nuts & seeds also great source...

    Carbohydrates

There's a great book called the diabetes code by Jason Fung which I'd recommend you read or listen to on audio book. It will explain why carbs are often a problem for T2 diabetics. In terms of how many carbs you can eat, that will depend on how you ready reacts. I can't eat lentils without my...

    Breakfast ( for pre diabetic)

Yes I've noticed a supply issue in my local supermarkets for unsweetened coconut & almond milk as well. I wonder if alot of people decided to do veganuary & they under estimated demand?

    Breakfast ( for pre diabetic)

Yes def. If you swapped the blueberries for raspberries you cut out about 7g of carbs. The oats are another 12g - though I'd probably swap that for flaxseed to maintain the fibre content . So you can easily cut out it down to around 8g carbs.

    Breakfast ( for pre diabetic)

I too am bored of eggs so I've started having chia seed porridge recently. It's a bit of a faff as you need to soak the seeds.l or they course your digestive system alot of problems. I use 2 tablespoons chia seeds, 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed, 20g porridge oats, 400ml unsweetened almond or...

Oops. Totally read your optional bit as relating to the honey not the sweetener :) thanks

    Getting HBA1C Tested during Covid

Yes absolutely. It's both annoying to know that I can't routinely eat things I want & at the same time reassuring that I can actually manage it with lifestyle changes.

    Getting HBA1C Tested during Covid

Finally got my hba1c results back & thankfully I appear to have dodged a bullet despite my poor choices prior to & during Christmas. Cholesterol normal, hba1c was 42 so borderline normal. My gp asked not too subtly if my diet had changed much during lockdown as it had gone up from 34. About as...

    Breakfasts for type 2 diabetics

Thanks! Agreed the seed stuff is not like real bread at all. In your recipe is the sweetener necessary? I try to avoid it if at all possible.

    Breakfasts for type 2 diabetics

There's a very low carb 'bread' in my local waitrose which is nice. Its basically seeds & ground seeds in the shape of a loaf. It's very dense & filling so you don't need a lot of it. https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/the-heart-of-nature-pure-grain-bread/836840-558656-558657

    Lockdown and delicate footsies

I spent a year travelling & basically wearing flip flops. It took me ages to get back to proper shoes & my husband who is not diabetic still refers to shoes as foot prisons 3 years later [emoji16] I had to go the office once about 5 months ago - I put heels on & felt great for about 5 minutes &...

For those who say home testing is not needed for T2s...

It's so hit & miss in terms of GP advice. When I was diagnosed my GP suggested the blood sugar diet (which in fairness does say a bit of porridge occasionally is ok) - its essentially eat a low carb Mediterranean diet & in the 1st 8 weeks eat 800 cals a day. Which sounds ridiculous but is...

    Getting HBA1C Tested during Covid

It might worth seeing if there is a local blood test service in your area. I found there were 3 centres I could go to, all I need is the form from the GP. It seems to be info they don't volunteer.

    Getting HBA1C Tested during Covid

Thanks all. In the end I phoned up again this afternoon & asked if I could get a blood test done somewhere else. They looked at my records , said it was well over due & my local heath centre could do it! So that's good. The 1st request I did was through that Econsult tool which last year told...

    Getting HBA1C Tested during Covid

I was diagnosed a little under 2 years with a HBA1C of 55. I managed to go into remission in 3 months by following the blood sugar diet and taking metformin - got my HBA1C down to 34. I was supposed to have a 6 monthly check last March, but it was cancelled due to Covid. Didn't think much of...

Question about Dawn Phenomenon & when to test

Hi All. How soon after I wake up should I be testing my BG? The reason I ask is that my husband gets up at 5am [emoji33], he alarm is NWA express yourself which I can't sleep through. He's also apparently incapable of being quiet [emoji35] so often I end up awake until he leaves. I then go...
