    Curry & Brown Rice?

The only rice that I can eat is Basmati rice but even then I can only eat a couple of desert spoonfuls and stay in my safe range, but its much better than any other rice Ive tried, including brown and wild.

Site manager your blood glucose levels are contradictory please fix

Also note that N.I.C.E. the National Institute for health and Care Excellence is a UK organisation so its advice is only really relevant to those in the UK. Other countries have their own standards for diagnosing diabetes.

Statins - good or bad - what does the research say?

As I said earlier the Cockrane Library look at ALL available data and base their reviews on evidence from all sources and they are totally unbiased they do not have an agenda, they do not cherry pick the data they want and disregard or even rubbish all the rest. At the end of the day you can...

    Help! Which diet?

Hi and your quite right, everyone tends to recommend the diet that they use and there are as many diets as there are diabetics but the one thing we are all in agreement with here is that you should reduce the amount of carbs in your diet, by how much and whether you add extra fat is entirely up...

    Hi all, I am Malcolm

Hi Uncle Malc and welcome to the forum, neat books btw but a bit young for me ;) Doctors arent often very well informed Im afraid, they usually mean well but dont know much about diabetes. Do you have T2 diabetes, Im guessing you do from your age but thats not always the case especially as your...

Statins - good or bad - what does the research say?

"Cochrane Reviews are systematic reviews of primary research in human health care and health policy, and are internationally recognized as the highest standard in evidence-based health care resources." The Cockrane Library is the gold standard of evidence based reviews but if you chose not to...

Statins - good or bad - what does the research say?

The Cocrane reviews are totally un-biased and have been quoted before on this forum many times mainly by those strongly against the use of statins, whats changed?

Prednisolone and its immediate impact on blood sugars

Hi pleinster, like you I have (SID) steroid induced diabetes, of that they is no doubt as I was taking prednisolone for 3 years in total and diagnosed T2 after 2 years! I had suffered respiratory failure which happened 3 times over 4 months, basically ever time I stopped taking prednisolone I...

    Feeling flat - Failed again.

Hi Maggie I have done that a few times and its very annoying and can seem like a wasted appointment cant it. What I do now whenever I have an any appointment is, I write down any questions I have before the appointment and as I think of more I add them to the list, then on the day of the...

Statins - good or bad - what does the research say?

If anyone wants to know about the factual evidence regarding Statins rather than the often bias Youtube video presentations and anecdotal evidence then the only place to look is the Cockrane Reviews. The Cockrane reviews are NOT cherry picked and give ONLY the best un-biased reviews of medical...

    confused

Assuming its an HbA1c test result 90's high but it is measured in mmol/mol not mmol/L as the day to day tests are measured in. I was diagnosed with an HbA1c of 117.5. I dont know why they changed them as the old measurements would have been 117.5 = 12.9% and 90 = 10.4% now doesnt 10.4% sound...

    confused

You could potentially be T1 or LADA (Latent Autoimmune Diabetes of Adulthood) but no amount of tablets will stop that, if you are T1/LADA, then you are. At your age the vast majority of those diagnosed with diabetes will be T2 although a very small percentage may later be re-assigned as LADA...

    Type 2 Mediterranean Diet

I eat a low carb diet but Ive never found a reason t eat more fat, all I did was cut back on carbs. Well if Im honest I cut back on everything but carbs most of all. LCHF doesnt have to mean eating shed loads of fat, if you eat less fat your percentage of fat is automatically increased, its...

    HBA1C v A1C

HbA1c stands for "Haemoglobin Ac1" so is exactly the same as Ac1, its just an abbreviation. There is no need to fast for a HbA1c/A1c. The only test you will normally have to fast for is a cholesterol "full lipid panel" test as any fat eaten in the hours before a test will skew the results as...

    Worried -Possible anemia or worse!

Hi xkmac3, you do seem to have a lot going on so I will restrict my answer to what I can tell you about my experience of vit B12 deficiency. I had been taking metformin for years although I recently stopped taking them and also omeprazole as I was taking a lot of ibubrofen last winter for my...

    Metformin - understanding more

I think you must have misread my post ill quote what I said again so that you may re-read exactly what I wrote: "The maximum dose, currently 2 X 500 mg tablets twice daily (2000 mg a day)" Ive highlighted the max dose, hope that clears things up.

    Can you help me please?

As SueNSW has said this thread seems to have gone astray. I am a T2 and have used insulin I used it from diagnosis up until I weaned myself off it about 12 months later having successfully lost 4 stones in weight, over the next year I lost a further stone in weight and have maintained my weight...

"You don't look like a Type 2 diabetic"

As others have said it is rather disappointing that an Endo would assume the stereotype, but encouraging that they advise low carbs. And the fact remains that over 80% of T2's are overweight or obese at diagnosis and its highly unusual for a well controlled T2 to be referred to an Endo anyway...
