    Holiday tips (Cadiz)

Hi, we're off to Cadiz in a couple of weeks. I've been lowish carb since finding out I'm prediabetic. This has been fairly easy as we have always cooked from scratch anyway, so I simply changed the recipes and removed all the starchy carbs. On holiday, we tend to make our own breakfast and lunch...

    Extreme fatigue after eating

Hi, it's the range for ACTIVE B12 which has a very different range to standard B12. My area (Glasgow) now uses active B12 as standard. I'm interested in that film! I love another B movie where women grow yams in their attics and sell it illegally to treat their menopause! I'm lucky with my GP...

    Extreme fatigue after eating

Thanks again - I've already started reading up on the sublingual B12 and it's a huge relief. I had considered going down the self-injection route but I'm too anxious, so knowing there's an alternative that's actually been shown to be more effective than injections is fantastic.

    Extreme fatigue after eating

Hi, Great info, thanks. I hadn't heard of the sublingual tablets but I did understand that the standard B12 vitamin pills are only useful if you're low in B12 due to being vegan as otherwise it's almost certainly an absorption issue. Can you recommend a brand? I'm 45 years old and have...

    Extreme fatigue after eating

In all seriousness, that's the final frontier! Need to do some very technical experiments about how alcohol effects my blood glucose levels. Now, where's my 2 litre beaker of red wine...

    Extreme fatigue after eating

Ok thanks, I'll look into doing that test. I'll try the chickpea flour as well, I've worked with it in the past to make pakora, so!I could give that a try while I'm at it! I'll also keep track of the gluten and fatigue you mention. I eat very little gluten just now, so that will.be easy to...

    Experiments with Continuous Glucose Monitor

Thanks Melgar, good to know. I'd like to use one longer but not possible at the moment

    Experiments with Continuous Glucose Monitor

Melgar are you able to tolerate full fat greek yoghurt? I seem fine with that but not with straight milk? Just curious. I understand that the graphs will be provided, but I was looking for an approach similar to that used by folk with IBS starting the FODMAP diet to get the most out of the data...

    Experiments with Continuous Glucose Monitor

Hi, I'm prediabetic (only just-HBA1c 42) and am following a lowish carb Mediterranean (and Indian!) diet. I've been using a BGM to try and find what spikes me. So far, it seems to be wheat, even if it's wholewheat and even in small amounts. I've not tested any other higher carb foods yet (not...

    Blood glucose testing

Ha I now can't remember what I ate! I have a few different things for breakfast: two boiled eggs with a slice of buttered luvlife bread or whole greek yoghurt with berries, soaked chia seeds and maybe some nuts, or jumbo oats with pear and almonds. Last night I had a shock after eating half a...

    Extreme fatigue after eating

Yes, this is my next thing to do. I will use the free trial. Any suggestions for making the most of that would be welcomed. For example, should I plan experiments for the two week trial? I wondered about doing a week on my current lowish carb diet and then a week where I try things I'd like to...

    Extreme fatigue after eating

Thanks for the thoughts and ideas. I might try and espresso-sized creamy choc with the high cocoa chocolate, and maybe some chilli in it! But yes, I shouldn't forget how much I'm enjoying a couple of bits of the Lindt 90percent these days and also the fact that I really enjoy the diet. I'm kind...

    Blood glucose testing

That's good to know that the 5.4 fbg isn't something I need to try and lower :) I had a shock last night after testing 2 hours after dinner. I added half a small wholemeal Chapatti (17g carb) to my meal and tested at 12.2. I'll probably need to try it again in case it was an anomaly. Gutted if...

    Extreme fatigue after eating

Bit of a moan. Ate 47g carbs today BUT had a half wholewheat flatbread smothered in ghee with my cauliflower curry tonight. 13.5g carb. 5.4 on my BGM before eating dinner and 12.2 two hours after... So it looks like I may not tolerate wheat well. I have two questions: 1. Any recommendations for...

    Extreme fatigue after eating

I don't need to avoid foods with B12 before testing as I've always eaten foods high in B12 and tested low whilst eating them. So it's likely an absorption issue

    Extreme fatigue after eating

Hi yes I eat everything, except starchy veg and white/brown rice, pasta, bread etc. I'm very much up for fasting. I just want to make sure I don't lose more weight if I do it.

    Extreme fatigue after eating

Hi, yes you're right. There are lots of peer-reviewed articles you can find via Google Scholar. I got told I had pre-diabetes and low B12 at the same time. About a month later, I got told I'm also anaemic. I feel there's something happening to my body that's linked. I'm also only just in the...

    Extreme fatigue after eating

The issue is that it is not possible to tell if your absorption of B12 has increased simply because you have a higher B12 serum level. If they tested me straight after taking B12 tablets for two months, it would likely show a higher serum level. But this would not relate to my absorption of B12...

    Extreme fatigue after eating

You can't test people for B12 while they're supplementing. I think it would have made more sense if she'd said let's retest in X amount of months and in the meantime done an intrinsic factor test and full iron panel. I'm really hoping that when I get my B12 sorted, I'll no longer be described as...

    Extreme fatigue after eating

Yes. My GP unfortunately gave me B12 tablets, which are only suitable for people who don't get enough B12 via diet (usually vegans). This means I can't get proper tests done u til I'm clear.of B12 tablets for 4 months. I do think I'm tired in general because of that, as well as the anemia I have...
