CGM - anyone got one on NHS?

Well, it's the kind of healthcare stitch-up you get used to these days. Shame as it's £2000/yr they won't be getting from me. It also has an impact on the way you look at "which pump will I choose for the next 5 years?" This is the second disappointment I've had with Animas, in fact they appear...

CGM - anyone got one on NHS?

Just called Animas, they won't supply CGM. "Only available for those who use our Vibe pump". I haggled with them for 10 minutes over it and they were quite adamant that CGM was unavailable and there were no plans to supply it, to support DSNs, or to help any T1 user have it. Shame that.

CGM - anyone got one on NHS?

GGC is a Sourceforge project to open up diabetes management. Anyone of a technical inclination can help the folk there on making stuff like this.

CGM - anyone got one on NHS?

But, Spiker, we already trust ourselves to vagaries of judging what insulin we need. Sometimes overdosing sometimes underdosing. The difference is that usually we have only ourselves to blame. Me, personally, I'm happy to blame an algorithm I create and run in a phone instead of an algorithm I...

CGM - anyone got one on NHS?

Tech is all about splitting design problems into small manageable steps. This one is about getting and using CGM (which has its own benefits anyway). Another step is intercepting the Bluetooth protocol for my Roche pump (which is handy as it could be used as a remote control on a mobile)...

CGM - anyone got one on NHS?

I've been using the Libre for the last 4 months. It's great to be able to check up your glucose and see how it's flowing up or down. Abbot have nailed the sensor life to EXACTLY 14 days. It's using near-field to pick up data from the sensor, it ONLY works on your outer-arm (so it clags up a...

CGM - anyone got one on NHS?

I'm looking into self-funding my CGM. At the moment I use the Libre, it's really handy and appears to be cheaper than the Dexcom. Libre costs me £101 every 4 weeks. Dexcom quote me £257 every 4 weeks. Now the Libre is near-field with their special reader and uncalibratable. Dexcom is Bluetooth...

    My blood sugar is h.i?

Oh yeah, and fighter jets fly like a brick when something goes wrong. Jumbos glide nicely when there's a system failure somewhere. I know, I know.

    My blood sugar is h.i?

It's like painting a wall, bit of care preparation and attention works wonders. You can do it without, but it never looks good or works well. I get criticised for flying my diabetes like a fighter jet, quickly correcting and eating as I wish, but my DSN likes it to be more like flying a Jumbo...

    My blood sugar is h.i?

It's an extraordinary slow transition between high and low though, looking at the time of your messages @dmc3x. Hi at 2am, falling to hypo at 9pm. Astonishing. My blood sugar starts to fall well in an hour at 20mmol/l after some insulin, & stabilises at about 3-4 hours (with careful...

    My blood sugar is h.i?

It needs care, attention and skills to manage this. Get some advice. Call 111. You'll never fathom it out whizzing back and forth between hyper and hypo. Get help.

    NHS24 dial 111.

    My blood sugar is h.i?

With Novomix, the short acting component will help the immediate problem, but then the longer acting component will need managing with something to eat when your blood sugars drop below 4mmol/l.

    My blood sugar is h.i?

Get professional help. NOW. Don't rely on the forum. You need something quicker than that with ketones present. You need insulin. Preferably fast acting insulin, in the absence of that, Novomix. Keep a close eye on the blood sugars, every hour or so.

    Roche Supplies Warning

Strangely, after my DSN had, "stern words" with Roche, they seem happy to supply any cannula I like now.

    SAFETY NOTICE, Accu-Check Spirit Combo.

Roche are not able to supply cannulas at the moment. Clearly there are some serious issues going on down there. Sigh. Looks like it'll be back to MDI until I get some pump supplies from Roche.

    Roche Supplies Warning

Word of warning - Roche are keeping this one quiet not informing DSNs, no announcements on their website etc. I had problems on Tuesday, another pumper friend had problems yesterday. They have a shortage of Flexlink cannulas. They have no cannulas in stock. They have limited supplies of links...

Should I tell my new boss?

Yes, absolutely, tell anyone and everyone. I've had dozens of jobs (in a professional office setting) it's never EVER been an issue. I treat it as "oh by the way, if I glaze over, look hot & sweaty & just say "yeah", I probably need something sugary. The glucose is in my desk, chocolate anything...
