Don't involve yourself in the blame game.

Over the last year 5 people in my (fairly small) sports club have been diagnosed as T2. All are reasonably fit over 50's. Are they to blame? They have looked after themselves and none are obese, some decidedly slim in fact. Who knows what has caused this diagnosis. Perhaps diagnoses have...

    Cholesterol shot up statins required??

Statins didn't agree with me and I refuse to go back on them. However, in response to refusal my GP advised Benecol drinks and garlic. Now I low carb and eat masses of saturated fat (unlike before I went on statins) and each day swallow a finely chopped clove of garlic washed down with a dairy...

Seems I've had prediabetes for 8 years

Yup! they did a similar thing with me, totally messed me around in the early years and now I'm having to work hard to keep from going on the meds. The 44 on your Hba1c is what they call 'good control'. But that is good control for a diabetic so you should make the changes that keep that figure...

    Carb free snacks

Now that is a more measured post Bozwald59, unlike your original dogmatic sweeping statement. For some people high fat carb free snacks CAN be eaten freely. Your original statement was wrong to say that they cannot, that was merely your opinion. You are a pharmacist not a dietician so you...

    Nocturnal sweats. Causes?

Jenny - if you are sweating regularly and profusely then the cramps may be something as simple as loss of the body's electrolytes through sweat, in a similar way to the way an athlete does. A simple sure for that is to add a bit of salt to your diet, drink plenty and maybe experiment with a...

    Carb free snacks

Bozwald59, I think it may be you that needs converting. Since switching to low carb and eating lots of saturated fat and protein instead my 'numbers' have improved vastly. Total Cholesterol down 2% and an improvement in the good/bad ratio too. Hba1c down , blood pressure really improved...

    Nocturnal sweats. Causes?

Why? what is magnesium supposed to do? What led you to try this? You surely only take something if you have a reasonable idea of the cause of the problem and the pathway that the 'medication' takes. We are all ears on this one.

When to eat - type 2

As this thread is called 'when' to eat not 'what' to eat I won't comment on that banana and those grapes

When to eat - type 2

I find I need to eat every 2-3 hours so snacking is a given for me. However as I low-carb I have had to make sure that I have low-carb snacking food to hand. I keep a pack of mixed nuts with me and find that just a small handful is enough to tide me over. alternatively I keep mushrooms or...

    Nocturnal sweats. Causes?

I suffered with these for a few years when I was following NHS dietary guidelines. I don't test and I'm on no medication. I just rely on 4-monthly Hba1C tests to check how effective my diet and exercise control is. However, I am aware when I'm letting my diet and exercise regime get out of...

Don't involve yourself in the blame game.

Great, you have the gift to actually do something about it. I really wish that overweight people would stop carping on about being 'blamed' for their condition - just lose the weight! Diabetes is not all about weight, but it doesn't help. I, on the other hand, am thin and haven't got the...

    Teatment since NHS Reforms Began

Lucylocket61 I was diagnosed 9 years ago , aged 48, on the basis of 2 fasting glucose tests (FGTT) - I had been having sporadic FGTTs over the previous 4 years as I was deemed to be pre-diabetic. Since that time my Hba1c has never been above 6.6% (49) and did go down to 5.9% (41) and is now...

    Teatment since NHS Reforms Began

Cured? on the basis of Hba1c tests - I think not. I'd get back there and demand a fasting glucose tolerance test as that is the only measure of how your body is handling a given glucose load. If you can't pass that (without any form of medication) then you're still diabetic. Go to it...

Better than my attempt Hale710. However, you're still having problems with the past tense of 'to go' - 'ir' if my memory serves me right. Perhaps "I went " = " j'irais" ? or sommat like that - can anyone help me here, it was 40 years ago!

Apologies accepted (by me anyhow). We are all different and many of us struggle to find things that work for us which is why this site is so fantastic. There are lots of opinions and lots of personal experiences and a huge amount of advice, which is why finger-pointing dogmatic rants will...
