    statins

Since coming off statins I have experimented with firstly daily Benecol drink - bought it down by 1% - and daily garlic (1 clove finely chopped) which also bought it down by > 1%. I now take both and along with a low-carb and high-fat diet I have slashed my cholesterol levels.

Have you cured or reversed type 2

I'm not sure Trotskyite is saying this. Body weight is made up of both muscle and fat, so two people of the same size and weight can have wildly different muscle/fat ratios. Muscle mass is very important in the way insulin is used in the body and the effectiveness of processing BGs. Thus...

Its Newcastle Jim, but not as we know it...

I think it is worth noting from the report that when he was first diagnosed he was under a great deal of stress - bereavement and jobwise. Stress has been shown to raise blood sugars temporarily. This could have been the 'extra' which took him from non-diabetic to diabetic readings. When the...

    Low carb diets restrictive? Myth!

And I have just rediscovered peanut butter! Having avoided it for years in a vain attempt to keep my cholesterol down, I now find that I can eat such yummy lo-carb delights and my cholesterol stays low. For lunch I had a large celery stick packed with peanut butter, four slices (1/2) of a green...

Diet and exercise followed by Medication

You needn't be bored with your diet. See all the ideas on the low carb forum, and this viewtopic.php?f=18&t=42429 and anyway shouldn't your health come first? Medication is for those whose health would be worse without it. It's NOT a lifestyle choice!

Diet and exercise followed by Medication

Surely the best position is avoiding medication. Why would you want to medicate just so that you can eat bread? If you follow that argument to absurdity you would take an antidote so that you could imbibe some particularly tasty poison. Your body doesn't like carbs - just accept it...

    Hot-Holy ****

I'm convinced I was born in the wrong country. I'm absolutely loving this weather and have been out running for an hour or so at every opportunity and lying in the garden when i'm not. :D Last week I went to the lakes and ran up and down Black Combe - brilliant! and then around Walney Island...

    Low-carbing

Welcome stockart check out the low-carb forum. However, I think it's mostly Type2s that do this, especially the non-insulin dependent ones. That's not to say the others don't low-carb, there are still benefits - like less insulin needed.

But does this affect the active ingredient?

    Garlic

Because I refuse to take statins, on the advice of an Asian doctor, to help bring down my cholesterol levels, I eat 1-2 finely chopped cloves of raw garlic each day, washed down with a dairy free Benecol drink. His advice to swallow the garlic without chewing seems to work in that I never...

What do the rest of your family eat?

There is no reason why your daughter should low carb. Just do what is best - a sensible diet full of fresh food, keep treats as treats and not everyday, and keep her active and within a sensible weight. First and foremost you and hubby should set her a good example of healthy living - you both...
