    The low-carb cause

Jopar, I think this speak volumes as 17-20 must seem like a lot to people who don't have to live with insulin dependency! I know that 17-20 is a pretty low number when all things are considered and you must have pretty good control to maintain such a low qty of insulin each day. I have just...

    VERY politically incorrect

the reason I queried your decision to post it here Hana is because everyone views this area, old posters and new alike and when I see statements questioning if medication needs to be taken, I have to respond and say yes, it does! What else can I respond with?! What if a newly diagnosed type 1...

    The low-carb cause

well said Nigel! each to their own but may we all remember that those who do and those who don't are really, all on the same side :)

    VERY politically incorrect

this is ridiculous! Keep posts like this to the type 2, low carb area of the forum. Go without medication?! I should coco!! I'd be dead within a week or so! :P I totally respect everyone and anyone's right to low carb, Hana, if you like eating cheese for breakfast then you go for it...

    A Question about Medical Appointments

Hi every company is different but in my experience, they can't MAKE you take it as holiday and are duty bound to allow you reasonable time off for your appts. Of course, they don't have to pay you for the time you aren't at work but in my experience, if you show that you are doing what you can...

    Accu-chek combo users....Help please!

Johnny, you would be surprised what a lady can secrete about her person ;-) I can't even feel it's there, and depending on what I'm wearing over the top, I am pretty sure no one else can see it either!

I realy need some help with type 1 teenage daughter.

the best 'official diabetes' site I have found is pumpwearinc which is a US company but you can pay with a credit card (in USD) and they will ship over (at a cost!).They sell lots of adult products but honestly? I would just buy a pretty make up bag or a pencil case for her to use, something she...

I realy need some help with type 1 teenage daughter.

well there is your selling point for carb counting, she can enjoy sugar as long as she counts for it! it's quite life changing for a type 1 when you carb count and realise you can enjoy the odd Twix without pushing your BG through the roof! makes you feel less different too which is important...

I realy need some help with type 1 teenage daughter.

Hi Carob, I don't have a diabetic teenageer but I was one once, I would bet my bottom dollar your little love was hypo in the night! I used to lay in bed shaking and dreaming of hob nob biscuits, but too scared (or too silly!)to get up and deal with the situation. I was also told off a lot for...

    Accu-chek combo users....Help please!

Hi Johnny, the remote is fab so try and get some help with it if you can! I find it a God send, particularly as I tend to wear my pump in my bhra so I dont' have to flash anyone when I need to bolus! let me know if you need some help, I'm new but know my way around it pretty well :D

To test or not to test....

blimey, I get bubbles every time! or have done thus far :P I get rid of them but they manage to get back some times! I find it hard to keep the insulin vial upright when wearing the pump so perhaps that's why? who knows, I've seen some other users have similar probs with the Accu Chek so maybe...

To test or not to test....

Hi Carbsork, so how do you explain removing the 'blockage' and my BG instantly dropping and returning to normal? that's not a rhetorical question, I genuinely would like to know! I have no other explanation for the continued rise in BG, if basal was wrong then why did it go back to...

To test or not to test....

Lots of posts about test strip availability for 1's and 2's recently, so here's a classic example of why they should be available by the truck load for type 1's (that's not to say they shouldn't be available for type 2's just in slightly smaller trucks  ) this morning I woke, tested and...

    PCT weasels

I have exactly the same struggle!! Oddly enough, didn't have a problem getting my pre-pump strips prescribed, anything new and they seem to get all freaked out and think the patient doesn't know what he/she is doing! So odd considering the cost of treating an amputee patient or kidney dialysis...

    hba1c 9.1

Hi Carolyn, I vaguely remember your older posts, but can't recall how long it was between your tests? It can take a couple of months of any changes made (more insulin/more meds/less carbs) to have a real affect on your Hba1c results. Hang in there!! if you are low carbing then I'm sure you will...

    Cost of Diabetic Consumables

It's not just type 2's who have problems getting prescriptions sorted! it took me 4 weeks to get my new strips (vital for my new pump, old strips are not compatible) and my GP would not add them without lots of fuss. After all the fuss, I turned up to collect the presciption and he had added x1...

    Carb counting

Hi Martin, In simple, non scientific terms, if you are counting carbs then you should be counting the total carb content, not just the sugar portion. So, if a food has 50g carbs then count the full 50g, not just the 15g which sugars (for example!). Good luck :D

    Calling all pumpers!

HI Jopar, thanks for the tip, I did know that, I don't think my post was very clear which is perhaps why you thought I didn't! I don't have to follow my pump screen as I can see all the goings on via the remote, which is my new favourite toy

    Calling all pumpers!

HI Cricketwidow, i guess it depends on which pump you have? the Accu Chek combo is technically waterproof but I wouldn't take it in water (on the advice of the pump rep)as it's more splash proof. I've heard that the Animas pump is completely waterproof but don't quote me!
