Type1. I Get So Moody Lately And I Don't Know Why

My OH is more moody the higher his BS is, creates fun some mornings [emoji1]

Type 1 at 6 months old

My LO was diagnosed in July at 15 months, my OH is also T1, the team say we are the youngest they've had so can only imagine how unusual it is for such a young baby to be diagnosed. Feel free to message if you need to talk :)

    Insulin and eating

Yes some you do, it sounds like an intermediate insulin but I don't know the brand names. My LO has her insulin 10-30 minutes before eating depending on what her blood sugar was, my OH takes his 30mins to an hour before I think (from observations I've never actually asked him ) they have...

    Dental disease and diabetes

We've been told T1 has an impact because of the sweet hypo treatments :) When you don't eat carbs there's nothing for the bacteria that cause decay to eat so risks to teeth are much less

    Oh what's the point

I have researched low carb for children and it isn't an issue however I'm not even doing that with her, I just wanted to discuss the possibility, I'd much rather not do it if we don't have to I'm just exploring options.

    Oh what's the point

He can't come because he has a meeting he can't miss, his mum is going to come with me. I appreciate it's more than likely burnout but since I'm the one doing all LOs management it's hard to listen to him picking at all the things he thinks I'm doing wrong

    Oh what's the point

Everyone else is too scared to look after her, she doesn't go to nursery yet. I don't know if the hospital has a creche. I'm thinking of asking his mum to come the appointment with me, that way I have back up of what's been said and maybe she can help me get through to him

    Oh what's the point

As I say, I can't leave her with her dad, the only people who will watch her for me are his parents but I worry about asking them because the last thing I want is for them to feel I'm taking the mick

    Oh what's the point

I've not yet but I will be on Friday, I've tried that approach with other things and he just thinks I'm interfering :(
  10. shivles

    Oh what's the point

He is adamant he doesn't need help, I've tried in the past to talk to him about it because he scares me to death. He doesn't need to test anymore because he 'just knows' and doses his insulin depending on how he feels. I'm pretty sure he's been running high for years, recently the circulation to...

    Oh what's the point

He doesn't have a hospital team anymore, he doesn't need one, just like he doesn't need to test his blood sugars [emoji32] I will tell them anyway, one of the nurses on our team was his when he was a kid (and her and his mum are still friends) so maybe she can help in some way, I think I'll...

    Is this normal?

From Dr Bernsteins book, might be a useful starting point?
  13. shivles

    Oh what's the point

If I did try and explain (again) he won't believe me, he's diabetic and I'm not so therefore I know nothing. We had a row at 5am over how many cola bottles to give for a hypo :( I've been instructed to feed her 'normally' from now on, ie bread, bread more bread and maybe some pasta. Now it...

    Before bedtime BS levels

We was told between 7 and 9 but in reality the number going to bed is pretty useless, LO has gone to bed over 14 and still had a low at 3am. Just try and keep it stable, if they've been extra active that day I'd maybe give a snack
  15. shivles

    Oh what's the point

He doesn't get that her treatment is different to his, he's also T1 but on Novomix... He has to feed his insulin to stop lows and so sees me not giving chips at tea as dangerous. I give her chicken nuggets and peas, 20g carbs total and her ratio is 0.5 units per 10g carbs, nice and simple gave...
  16. shivles

    Oh what's the point

Try your best to help your child and their dad accuses you of experimenting on them and putting them in danger, because you didn't give them chips for tea and they had a bad night with lows. Obviously I'm trying to kill her, couldn't be any other reason. I suppose I should just let her run high...

How do you avoid over treating hypos?

Thanks, I was told 15minutes then check again but looks like I should wait a little longer
  18. shivles

How do you avoid over treating hypos?

Thanks, will definitely try giving the dextrose as I want to avoid her enjoying her hypo treatments too much, I've heard all about her Daddy sending himself low on purpose when he was little so he could have jelly babies [emoji23]
  19. shivles

How do you avoid over treating hypos?

Yeah that's what we have, it's a bit hit and miss getting the halves the same size but I'll try one next hypo and see how it goes. The midget gems were good size wise, found a jelly baby is usually too much for her

How do you avoid over treating hypos?

With them I worry about the accuracy of me breaking up tablets! To be fair though I have never tried. .. off to go play in the medicine box [emoji28]
