Just got back from my first appointment with the dietician. I was diagnosed in Sept 2008.I am absolutely over the moon, chuffed and delighted. I have lost a stone in weight since mid November. She said that the way I am attacking my diet is brilliant Her only comment was that I should be...

Can diabetic retinopathy be treated? Obviously it must depend on the severity when diagnosed. If it can be treated is this done by keeping BS levels low or what?

    Walking

Hi all. Just got back from a 8000 step walk in the pouring rain with my large brolly and my ipod playing in my ears. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't know when my step meter is 100% correct or not but I do find using it a challenge as I keep trying to beat my own record. I got mine from Amazon...

    Walking

Sorry Sixfoot but as newly diagnosed last September and yet to see the dietician, have my eyes screened etc. it was so good to hear these comments. I've been battling away by myself with a few cookbooks, the tremendous wealth of info on this site, lots of walking and loads of determination...

    Walking

Another 30 years of walking, Phew!! I have just got back from a walk and saw my neighbour as I got home. He commented how healthy I looked. I've had three people this week asking if I had lost weight. I hope the compliments keep coming. They sure do make me feel good.

    HbA1c

Relatively new to this in that I have only had 2 appointments with the diabetic nurse since being diagnose last September although I have learnt SO much from this site. One thing I have to ask, what is the HbA1c test? The blood test I had done after fasting for 12 or so hours when I was...

    Walking

That's the other problem. I would not have time to do 7 mile as I still work. Any idea how I can get more exercise? I park at the other end of car parks, I run up the stairs, often 5 or 6 times without stopping at home, which I pride myself on as my two best friends who are roughly the same age...

    Walking

I know that everyone is recommended to walk 10,000 steps a day if possible. I am 62 and wondered if this amount of steps is still advisable for someone my age. Ok, if I can achieve this then brilliant. Does anyone know of a steps number that it will be good for me to achieve every day therefore...

    test strips

I have a FreeStyle Lite monitor. The cheapest place I have found to buy the strips is direct from the company that manufacture them, Abbott. They are around £16 for 50, about £25 in chemists, possibly a few pound cheaper on the internet. You will probably have to become a member and give them...

    Carbs, fat and confusion

I understand and accept that very low carbs reduce bs levels. I do need to reduce my weight and have read that it is ok to eat such things as butter and cream which most people would avoid if trying to loose weight, is this correct? Grief it is all so confusing. Diagnosed type 2 levels around 6...
