    Remission and COVID-19

There are 2 main areas coming to light in the statistics. Firstly if you are obese then a much higher level of complications. We know that can go alongside high BG levels in some type 2s so I think the focus needs to be on keeping BG as close to non diabetic as possible. For some people that...

    Type 1 or type 2?

Took me about a month too. Diabetes nurse wanted them down slowly because it isn't good for your small blood vessels to suddenly reduce after running high for a long time. GP practice nurse also thought I was T2 because I was in my 40s. A quick Google after seeing her made me think she was...

    GAD results received omg!

I was 43. No other autoimmune conditions and none in the family. I did a session with a nurse who was running a trial on genetic indicators and had to answer a questionnaire about illnesses I'd had in recent years - nothing more than a cold. Also no traumatic events. So a bit of a mystery...

    Hypo night question.

I was diagnosed 3 years ago in my 40s and have had a few overnight hypos where I haven't woken up. The low BG first thing in the morning and splitting headache that lasts all day is the giveaway. You test away IMO

    Corona virus

It's the number - or lack of - ICU beds that really concerns the authorities. Italy is overwhelmed and their health service has better resources than the UK

Reduced access to blood test strips.

Complain loudly. Do you have a consultant? Get in touch with them. When my GP surgery started playing around with my prescription the Consultant got it sorted quickly.

So the body no longer attacks the beta cells in your new pancreas @Grant_Vicat ? Did they have to run any tests before the transplant to check this?

    T1 & Norovirus

I had norovirus a few years before my T1 and it was 3 days of absolute hell! I was actually advised not to force food down me and just sip water. By day 3 I could take a few sips of lemonade without coming back up. It's vile... I'm sending sympathetic vibes.

    Insulin

Insulin has been shown to help preserve the remaining beta cells. I'd Google that, print the various articles off and stick them in front of the consultant!

    COVID 2019 Comorbidity with Diabetes

It's high or fluctuating glucose levels depressing the immune system and letting it take hold that I think is the issue. When I get a cold it's a struggle to get my levels out of the teens and I've likely got some inbuilt immunity to most cold viruses.

    No insulin for the day

    I ate salad!

Low carb or no carb - lessons learned...

My sister in law's cousin died at the age of 32 from a night time hypo that he didn't wake up from. Never knowingly had problems before that - but he'd been out with friends that night so alcohol was the probable cause sadly.

    TIR or Hba1c?

I tried to discuss it because I have huge swings. I'm not on a CGM (glue allergies!) so I spent the fortnight before my appointment doing a lot of testing to show the consultant. Don't know why I bothered. Just looked at hba1c despite the fact it had gone up 10 points and despite the fact that...

    Perimenopause

I'm heading towards 50 and have a feeling this goes a long way to explaining my erratic swings in BG levels....

A bit frustrated with the NHS

My GP wants a review every year. I get them to do the blood tests because it's handy having another hba1c (I make sure it's done between hospital appointments) then I tend to cancel the follow up appointment with the nurse at the GP surgery. That's a waste of time.

    New to all this.

In my first appointment with the diabetes team they showed me how to inject and told me I'd soon feel better.... except I'd been feeling fine running with BG levels of 30+ (the diagnosis was a shock) I felt AWFUL when I started on insulin and a complete failure. Bloods all over the place...

    Courses on treating type1

Diabetes can be extremely frustrating at times. I think we forget when we are injecting insulin that although it does an incredible job of keeping us alive it can never replicate the sensitivity to which our pancreas and endocrine system operate. I have the same breakfast every morning and will...

    staff shortage

@Wendi22 do you have a HR team you can talk to? Rather than 'ask' if they can make provision to keep you safe it works better if you tell them what you need IMO.

    New diagnosis LADA

I was diagnosed when I was 43. Not in the family, no illness that could have triggered it and i wasnt stressed either. Go on insulin. It gives you more flexibility and there is some evidence it can prolong your beta cells.
