    Denial help

I know that you say that you don't think that she's depressed, but could she be suffering from some degree of anxiety? Not wanting to help ones-self is often linked to feelings of anxiety regarding confronting the reality about a situation. To her, the diabetes and health issues may seem so...

    Confused new readings

A couple of days of missed meds shouldn't take too long to come back into order, and inflammation can sometimes impact blood sugars, so if that's an issue following surgery, it may be contributing. What sort of numbers were you getting before this and what's your diet like in general? I'm...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Too many nut based products today... which upped it to a 25g carb day. But hey ho, it's still very low carb. Breakfast - Puriton shake (my go to when I just can't think of what to eat) Snack - Nugget of cheddar and about 10 mixed nuts. Lunch - Left over roast chicken, cabbage and low carb...

    Insulin dose ...

Insulin dosage is really individual - one person can get by with a relatively small amount, whilst others need a lot more. I take 106 units of long acting, and normally around 8 to 12 of fast-acting (but currently doing keto diet, so haven't needed any fast-acting for a few days)... I'm very...

    Lack of sleep ... zzzzzzzzz

I've suffered on and off with insomnia for 38 of my 38 years haha! One thing that really helped me is that I set myself a time (2am), and if I'm not asleep by that time, I get up and read or do something other than lie in bed mulling over things. I listen to The Archers Omnibus podcast, and...

I need to get back on track but seriously struggling....HELP!

Falling off the wagon seems to be par for the course. We've all been there and done it (and the ones that haven't, will still fall off). I find that I fall off when it all becomes too difficult and when managing diabetes becomes a chore. I've realised that the only way that it is easy is for...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

The first I'd heard of it myself was when I picked a pot up in Sainsbury's on Friday. The Rarebit one is strong so I only need a little bit to flavour something up. I did see the Feta one - I think I'll try that one next too. I'm experimenting with my menu at the moment. I'm trying to buy...

    Keto and Gym?

I've just started Keto (moving from a moderate to low carb diet) - Friday was my first full day, and I felt a tad under-the-weather yesterday - typical headache and low energy. In my head, I'd got today written off as a do nothing and ride out the symptoms sunday. But I feel quite spritely...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Breakfast - Avocado with pastrami and poached egg, topped with a teaspoon of The Curious Cheese Company's Welsh rarebit spread. Lunch - Prawns with spinach and halloumi. Dinner - Home made low-carb bolognese (my hubby cooked! Third time in 10 years!!). No pasta, and lots of cheese. Snack -...

    Diabetic Nurses - Discuss

I have a GP based DN, a community DSN, and then a DSN attached to the Consultant's office (although I haven't actually met them yet). The GP based DN - very supportive, very friendly, and doesn't really enforce her views. She offers guidance and will listen to what I have to say. The...

    Rowing machines ....Your Thoughts??

I recently changed gym's... First priority was distance from home, second was Concept2 rower! I always hated rowing until I met with concept2's. I'm pretty certain that hubby will not let me have one of these in the house - but if he would, then I wouldn't ever be off the thing!

    Planning pregnancy with doctors

There are all kinds of things in place for us diabetics who are of child-bearing age. If it works the same in your area, you will be referred to an Endocrinologist who will assess everything about you... they go into insulin type, dosage, any other medications, general health and well-being...

Don't involve yourself in the blame game.

This rings so true with me. I was recently at an appointment with the community diabetic team - consisting of a DSN and a Dietician. I wanted to talk to them about going back on to a medication that had been working for me, great blood sugars and some weight loss... they'd taken me off it to...

    very sad

I know exactly where you are coming from. We have several balls we have to juggle with this disease... blood sugar, weight, exercise, general health. Keeping them all in the air is tricky! If you are on insulin - Carbs are the devils work. I went on to fast-acting a month ago, and...

    Type 2 Cramps

That makes sense now... I've just started Keto, and everywhere says not to bother with normal salt but to go for Pink Himalayan.

High blood sugar levels in the morning

Definitely get her to speak to her GP. I had a similar problem with Lantus, and was changed to another long-acting insulin - actually a lower dose, which immediately solved the problem. It seemed that my body was too used to the Lantus.

    DIABETIC WORKOUT

I'm 38 and discovered strength training and weightlifting four months ago. It's changed my life. My blood sugars have come down from the late teens, to normal range, and my body feels so much stronger. I also do cardio at the gym, but I live for the strength training!

    Forxiga

I used to take Forxiga - it was a few years back now. I've just been taken off a similar medication (Canagliflozin). They work by making your kidneys excrete the excess sugar out in urine, so it does make you drink loads. I was drinking in excess of 6 litres a day, and still feeling thirsty...

Keto Paleo - 4 weeks and no weight loss

Sorry to post and run like that! I am not measuring my body, but I think that it's something that I need to do. I think I'm just very impatient, and it galls me that prior to insulin and prior to diagnosis if I wanted to lose a few pounds it would happen quicker (although I never kept it off...

Keto Paleo - 4 weeks and no weight loss

Four weeks ago I made the decision to go Paleo, as I have IBS and struggle with dairy and wheat. It's the best thing I've ever done in terms of the IBS, and also my skin is good, I feel great. I also lowered my carbs to around 20g because having followed a moderately low carb diet for so...
