Type 2 What herbs and spices have you found helpful in reducing blood sugar and insulin resistance?

I eat it quite often, usually with chicken, makes a very nice dish. Although I can't say I've ever tracked if it reduces my glucose levels.

Type 2 What herbs and spices have you found helpful in reducing blood sugar and insulin resistance?

Not a herb or spice, but bitter melon has been researched to be beneficial in lowering and suppressing glucose levels.

    At work with no insulin

It would help, but it would last a lot longer than you probably needed. If you do that I would monitor regularly to make sure you don't have an hypo.

Yes we all need a bit of a help, and everyone here has been a helping hand in getting mine down. I'd say for me I really got back into fitness and diet just followed. I'm not on a low carb diet as some people, but I'm on amuch lower car diet than I was before. Typically eat ~120g carbs a day...

The consultant said he didn't see any benefit in trying to reduce it further, it was the recommended level as it is. But I don't necessarily agree as a non-diabetic has a lower Hba1c because its naturally more optimal. Also he believed hypos would increase, although he didn't have any concerns...

    Waking up at night

Ah my bad, read it as I have been diagnosed. Apologies. I doubt its low blood sugar related in that case, could still be a case of high levels (hyperglycemia), it would be best to get a monitor and check levels, or see a doctor who can do some tests (hba1c etc)

    600-800 calorie/cup foods?

1200-1600 calories per meal is quite high anyway. I don't think I could stomach that, maybe its better for you to split your meals?

    Waking up at night

Hi, welcome to the forum. Are you type 1 or type 2? If type 1 and you are injecting for the meal, maybe you have administered too much insulin, in this case lower your meal time insulin. Fast acting insulin can last up to 5 hours so at 3.5 hours this could be the cause. Also when you are awake...

    Night time low

You could be hypoing most of the night without knowing, with dawn phenomena brininging it up before waking or liver dump. Racing heart and sweats most definitely sounds like a hypo during the night. As asked above what are your splits, timings etc as 22 units on a night split seems like quite a bit.

    Incorrect food labelling

Yes, I find it happens quite a bit, its there average nutritional info from labs. The actual content will have to be within whatever specification range they set. Often bolus accordingly and have low glucose...

    Food tracking apps?

myfitnesspal is pretty good. Can search for food, scan barcodes etc and it picks up nutritional info, tracks it, macros etc.

Thanks to this community and the wealth of knowledge shared. I've been dx with diabetes for 18 years and with most of the information from here (and diabeticmuscleandfitness) I have been going from strength to strength. I feel rejuvenated. Had my hba1c result today, and it was 50, lowest its...

Pioneering iLet bionic pancreas receives 63m USD funding

Exactly what I was thinking, they fund the research with so many millions. Then when its all said and done, they are making a killing off the consumer at the end. If you have been aided to develop the technology, it should be affordable/free to everyone.

Poor impulse control regardless of terrifying consequences

Maybe for you, at this moment in time, a LCHF diet is not appropriate especially at 1200 calories. I understand you want to lose weight but its a marathon not a sprint. It probably would be better for you to incorporate a small amount of carbs into your weekly diet (low GI foods) and then plan...

Poor impulse control regardless of terrifying consequences

For me its about taking the responsibility upon myself to manage the condition. I've had type 1 diabetes for most of my life from the age of 8. Throughout my teenage years I just wanted to get on with life and my control had never been great. Now becoming mature and learning more and more...

Losing Weight with Type 1 Diabetes

Calorie's are key to weight loss, if you are not in a calorie deficit you will not lose weight. You need to calculate your maintenance calorie level then drop it by a few hundred to see any results (500 a day will result in ~1 pound of fat loss a week). So regardless of the diet you need a...

    Improving blood control

Well it depends on why the control has gone bad, is it due to stress, diet, lack of exercise, insulin issues etc? If you can give us some more information as to why it seems to be going out of control we can try to help. Is it going too high/too low etc?

Diagnosed but 8 month wait to see Diabetic Nurse

I find they are not very good with appointment's. Call the DSN directly and say you need to discuss your condition urgently, they can usually get you in quicker.
